Study Of The Oblique Function Theory By The French Architect Claude Parent

Claude Parent,the founder of the oblique function,won the French “Grand Prix National de l'Architecture” in 1979 and was elected at the “Académie des BeauxArts” in 2005.Claude Parent is also a theoretician,and polemicist.He was also the first to make an epistemological shape with modernism,around 1950.The name of Claude Parent is registered in the history of French architecture and even many of his works excites many people.The Oblique Function is a theory that was established by Claude Parent,which recommended a wall-free architecture created solely by nonorthogonal,inclined planes that would subsume the body in active participation.The oblique is basically attracted on how a body experiences space physically.The theory of the oblique function is termed as “symbol of modernity” by critics.This study presents the works of Claude Parent and aims at unravelling his works to the present generation of architects particularly on the oblique function.It is very significant especially on how to apply this concept in modern architecture.This study is founded on secondary data,obtained through case analysis,literature review.The research is conducted in three aspects:Firstly,the theory of the Oblique Function is introduced.It describes the biography of Claude Parent,and the development process of the theory.Also,the concept of Oblique Function in art and architecture are separately discussed.Secondly,the techniques and characteristics of the oblique function is introduced.In this aspect,it describes the technique of the oblique function,and the progressive improvement of Claude Parent's concept,techniques and his architecture.Also the characteristics of the oblique function and the Charleville architectureThirdly,the various applications of the oblique function are introduced.It described the application of art in the oblique function and the application of the oblique function in Housing Projects.It further described the application of the oblique function in building of cultural activities centers and in the construction of commercial architectural projects.Additionally,this aspect looked at the impact of the oblique function in city development.This research work presented the concepts and works of Claude Parent.The result of this research is meant to reveal to the young generation of architects about the works of Claude Parent including the oblique function.The oblique function has incredible influences on the new generation's architectural ideas and can serve as a good reference for architects.
