As one of the source control low impact development practices,permeable pavements can reduce surface runoff and peak discharge rate,improve water quality and recharge groundwater.Based on observations of permeability of 23 permeable pavement located in Beijing with four types?permeable paver,permeable concrete,porous asphalt,garden waste pavement?,the effect of pavement type,age,site characteristics and maintenance methods on permeability of permeable pavements were analyzed.The results showed:Among the four types of permeable pavement,permeable paver was the most widely used in the urban area of Beijing,followed by permeable concrete,while porous asphalt and garden waste permeable pavement were rarely used.Garden waste pavement had the best permeability,with an average permeability of 9510.5 mm/h;The permeability performance of permeable concrete and porous asphalt pavement was in the middle,with the average permeability of 3218.05 mm/h and2153.5 mm/h,respectively.The average permeability of permeable paver was the lowest,which was 191.3 mm/h.With the increase of age,the infiltration rate of different types of permeable pavement all showed a attenuation trend.Permeable pavement can maintain good permeability after 1?3 years of use,with an average infiltration rate between 312.9 mm/h and 9510.5 mm/h.However,The average infiltration rate of most permeable pavement that has been used for 4 years or more ranged from 6.0 to 910.6 mm/h,which was lower than the standard penetration rate(1.0×10-4m/s).Therefore,permeable pavement needed to be cleaned or updated for maintenance.Daily cleaning and maintenance measures can effectively maintain the permeability of permeable pavement,and the maintenance effect of reasonable regular cleaning methods were better.The average permeability range of different types of permeable pavement?used for more than 4 years?was 6.0?910.6 mm/h and 8.0?37.4 mm/h,respectively,and the average permeability was 241.4 mm/h and 14.4 mm/h,respectively.The infiltration rate of different types of permeable pavement was related to the site characteristics?traffic load,traffic frequency,vegetation?.The infiltration rate of permeable pavement site decreases with the increase of daily load.The results showed that the average permeability of the sites with heavy daily traffic load in the permeable parking lots was lower than that of the sites with light load,with an average infiltration rate reduction range of 36.2?519.0mm/h.The permeable pavement site with high traffic frequency had a greater the permeability loss.The permeability of the sites with high traffic frequency of permeable concrete pavement was lower than that of the sites with low frequency,with an average infiltration rate reduction range of1450.3?6948.8 mm/h.Permeable pavement sites near vegetation were more likely to be clogged,resulting in a decrease in infiltration rate.The maintenance methods had the best effect on permeable concrete pavement.The average permeability of permeable paver,permeable concrete and permeable asphalt pavement increased by 3.0 times,1.3 times and 0.3 times after being used for one year.Pressure-washing or combined with pressure-washing was the most consistently effective method for increasing permeable pavement surface infiltration rate.Among the 22 sites monitored by the test,there were 2,15 and 5 sites with the best effects of vacuum-suction cleaning,pressure-washing cleaning and combined cleaning.The lowest average permeability of permeable pavement site can be increased by 4.0%,40.0%and 7.0%by vacuum-suction cleaning,pressure-washing cleaning and combination cleaning.
