With more and more application of aluminum alloy in structural engeering,it is necessary to do some research on the residual stresses distribution of aluminum alloy section,in order to ensure the safety and reliability in engineering. In this paper,blind-hole method is taken to measure residual stresses of 17 aluminum alloy extrusion tubes and angles. Also, sequentially coupled thermal-stress analysis in ABAQUS is applied to established finite element model of a aluminum alloy tube, based on the analysis of heat conduction theory,to simulate the temperature field and stresses field of aluminum alloy extrusion profiles during air-cooling process. In this paper, research achievements are as follow:(1)the residual stresses distribution of 17 specimens was measured by blind-hole method. After analysis of data, the residual stresses distribution of aluminum alloy extrusion tubes and angles was obtained. The distribution diagram of residual stresses distribution is presented.(2)the changes of temperature field was simulated by ABAQUS,to calculate the temperature value of each part of the specimen, and to analyze its change with time during the air cooling process of aluminum alloy bar after heating and extrusion. So as to analyze the characteristics of the temperature field distribution of the profile in the air cooling process, preparing for the subsequent analysis of the stress field.(3)based on the results of ABAQUS temperature field analysis, the results of temperature field analysis were introduced into the stress field analysis as load in sequentially coupled thermal-stress anlysis. The formation process of residual stress in the air cooling process of aluminum alloy extruded profiles was simulated. The causes of residual stress distribution were analyzed in this paper. The simulation is reliable through the analysis of test results and numerical simulation results, which can make up for the large discreteness of experimental data.(4)the influence of thickness,width-thickness ratio and material strength of plate on residual stress was considered by finite element method, and the distribution diagram was proposed according to different width-thickness ratio.
