Unravelling The Characterization Of Urban Vitality In The Downtown From A Perspective Of Network

Urban vitality is a classic topic of urban planning and development.With the rapid development of Chinese cities,research on urban vitality has attracted much attention and made considerable progress in the past two decades.Urban space vitality is a kind of isomorphism of spatial characteristics and social activities behind it.It refers to the active degree of the interactive relationship between human behavior and space.The current research is rich in empirical research on the characteristics of this "isomorphism" in social life,but the lack of attention on the "isomorphism" and "interaction relationship" itself makes existing research It is more limited in the study of vitality characteristics such as streets,public spaces,communities,and commercial areas with smaller spatial scales,more homogeneous functions,and single interactions.It is difficult to conduct in-depth research on the diverse and complex vitality phenomena in a larger area..This study establishes a theoretical framework for characterization research on the meso-spatial scale of concern in regulatory planning,and conducts empirical research on the old urban center of Guangzhou,which continues to thrive in high-speed economic growth and high-density cities.The research is based on the delineated geographical area of the old city center.Its vitality characteristics include the basic building blocks of vitality(the "subject"),the spatial environment in which the subject is located,and the network structure of the subject in the interactive relationship..Among them,the vital subject is the isomorph of the people in the city and their activities and the physical space that carries them.Its basic space unit is the block enclosed by the urban branch road.Therefore,identifying the vitality subject is the basic premise for analyzing the vitality characterization,and revealing the structure and characteristics of the vitality subject is the key to understanding the urban vitality characterization.This study first analyzes the characteristics of the vital subjects in the central area of the old city of Guangzhou from the dimensions of vitality and built environment.Secondly,it analyzes the combined characteristics of various types of "human-space" isomorphs,that is,the 15 types of active subjects are identified by clustering analysis under 5 types of land use functions.Finally,based on the basic assumption that “vigor can only be reflected in relationships”,the paper establishes 800 meters of adjacent walking networks and functional networks measured by gravity models,and analyzes the community composition of various vital subjects in different relation networks It is found that no matter what kind of relationship is used to examine the characteristics of urban vitality,it is essentially the result of the reorganization of various vitality subjectsin different relational networks.They are highly spatially overlapping,showing the richness and diversity unique to the old city center.The phenomenon of vitality;the combination of types of vitality,the characteristics of the built environment,and the importance of network nodes can explain the reorganization of vitality to varying degrees.The empirical research in this thesis shows the theoretical framework of urban vitality research,providing a multi-dimensional,global observation and understanding of urban vitality for the central area of the old city;future research is planned in new urban areas,urban and rural areas The empirical test is carried out at the joint department or larger zoning planning scale.
