In recent years, rail transit has been building at an extraordinary rate in China’s major cities. In the context of the rapid construction and development of urban railways, the large-scale construction of railways has become one of the driving forces for the development of cities and regions in all aspects. The subway not only effectively diverted the traffic flow of surface motor vehicles,to a large extent, diverted a large number of high-frequency passenger flows and reduced the traffic pressure during peak hours, greatly driving the economic development of the city, but also helped to shape the image and characteristics of modern cities. This article focuses on the opportunity of subway construction to promote the creation of high-quality station area walking space, stimulating the revitalization of the city’s old urban areas. The study area selected in this paper is limited to the entrance and exit of each station in Hefei Sanxiaokou Station,Sipailou Station and Dadongmen Station as the center of the circle, and 500 meters as the superimposed space within the radius,a total of three areas as the study object.Through the overall analysis of the walking space vitality in the metro station area,we analyze the survey and research based on spatial behavioral characteristics and spatial psychological perception, respectively, and then analyze in depth the methods and strategies for creating the walking space vitality in the old city metro station area. The study analyses the characteristics of the physical space environment and the use of people from both "station" and "people" perspectives, using a combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis.Firstly, through the comparative analysis of the land use, spatial pattern, traffic connection and thermal map of the station area, the spatial factors affecting the optimization of the walking environment were found, and it was concluded that the land use of the station area, the relationship between the subway line and the main city road, and the connection between the subway station and the surrounding city function have a significant impact on the walking spatial vitality of the subway station area.Secondly,on this basis, the SD semantic difference method was used to evaluate and analyze from the four perspectives of landscape, building, space and people, and found that service facilities significantly affect the safety experience, cleanliness significantly affects the comfort experience, landscape greening significantly affects the sensory experience, and building fa?ade and space enclosure also significantly affect the walking experience. Then, based on the results of behavioral observation,we analyzed the spatial behavioral characteristics of the Da Dong Men Station in terms of the characteristics of crowd activity and spatial behavioral characteristics, and concluded that the spatial behaviors have different requirements on site properties and aggregation effects. Finally,to summarize the results of each analysis, the author proposes a strategy to enhance the vitality of the pedestrian space in the old urban subway stations from the three levels of identifiability, systemic and experiential, with a view to providing some reference and reference value for future urban subway station construction planning.
