A Study Of Arnold Berleant's Aesthetic Thought On Environmental Design

The aesthetics of environment,an important branch of western aesthetics research,emerged in the 1960 s under the academic background of the rise of applied aesthetics.As a representative figure in this field,American scholar Arnold Berleant,whose participatory environmental aesthetics established in the context of Aesthetics Field,which is based on perceptual experience,characterized by fusion of senses,embodied and continuity,has established his authoritative position in this academic field.Based on the overall development context of Berleant's aesthetics and the overall theoretical context of the development of aesthetics discipline,this thesis attempts to summarize and refine Berleant's environmental design aesthetics from various angles,and then summarizes the multiple meanings of this aesthetics.The full text is divided into five parts.The first chapter —— the part of introduction mainly introduces the research significance and research background of this thesis,summarizing the research status at home and abroad,and then expounds the research methods and research ideas of this thesis.In the second chapter,the development of aesthetics in the West since classical aesthetics is briefly reviewed,and an important branch of life aesthetics research,namely,aesthetics moving towards life is put forward.then this thesis starts from the two core concepts—— "Aesthetics Field" and "Aesthetic Participation" theory,trying to comb Berleant's aesthetics of environment comprehensively and systematically,and then points out that Berleant's environmental aesthetics theory has laid a solid foundation for the formation of his environmental design aesthetics thought,which not only provides a strong support for the theoretical construction of contemporary environmental aesthetics,but also injects new ecological(green)design concepts into modern design.The third chapter,based on the living environment,systematically expounds Berleant's ecological design aesthetic thoughts on urban environment,architectural environment,shore and aquatic environment,etc.On the other hand,based on the leisure environment,Berleant's ecological design(practice)aesthetic thoughts on the environment of art museums,gardens and theme parks are systematically expounded.The fourth chapter further summarizes the theoretical and practical significance of Berleant's environmental design aesthetics from both theoretical and practical aspects on the basis of the foregoing,and makes an analysis on the possibility of solving China's real environmental problems through his cooperation with China's current ecological aesthetics research field.The conclusion part summarizes the content of the full text,including the academic background,specific content,theoretical and practical significance of Berleant's aesthetics thought on environmental design,and also puts forward the prospect of its further development.
