In recent years,BIM has developed rapidly in China's construction industry.It can provide all participants in engineering construction with the required information quickly and accurately,and then improve the management efficiency of engineering project.There are many complicated technical problems in the construction of steel structure projects,such as many participants in the construction,large amount of construction information and difficulties in safety risk management.It is urgent to promote the informatization process of project management of steel structures.Therefore,All participants could exchange information through BIM platform when BIM technology is applied in the steel projects,then it could improve the work efficiency of all participants,shorten the construction period,improve the quality management efficiency and reduce the construction safety risks.In this paper,through the analysis of the traditional project management methods,the problems existing in the management of China's steel structure projects are summarized,such as difficult to control the progress,poor quality management,frequent safety accidents and other issues.The characteristics,technical direction and application in steel constructions of BIM are summarized by studying the relevant literatures at home and abroad.Then,the application research of BIM technology was carried out based on the steel frame project of Shanghai Century Mansion.The research contents are as follows:(1)In the process management,BIM technology is not only applicable to the construction phase,but also can be used in each stage of the entire cycle of the project management.BIM technology can manage the schedule of the whole project more effectively by integrating progress plan of each phase,Two working modes of BIM progress control in the construction phase are studied in detail,then the characteristics of the two progress management modes are compared and summarized.(2)In quality management,BIM model has more intuitive expression by integrating the models of all participants.Using collision inspection and pipeline optimization design can basically eliminate drawing conflict points and greatly improve the accuracy of design.In construction quality management,the 4D construction model built by BIM could simulating every stage of the project construction.Through the construction simulation,the dynamic tracking of construction quality is realized,which can effectively improve the efficiency of construction quality control before,during and after the event.(3)In terms of safety risk control,the construction safety risk management is established combinging the safety management system of BIM technology with the "PDCA" cycle.Then the shortcomings in traditional safety management are remedied.The application of BIM technology can identify potential risk factors in construction site and construction process efficiently,ensure the safety work of all sides and reduce the probability of occurrence of engineering safety accidents.Through the research of this paper,the problems and obstacles in the application of BIM technology in steel structure project management are analyzed,and then some suggestions are put forward,which can provide some reference for BIM technology in steel structure project management.
