The rapid development of China's metropolitan area has made the connections between cities and towns increasingly close. The increasing travel demand of residents puts forward new challenges to the transportation system within the metropolitan area.In order to better adapt to the commuting needs and to achieve convenient travel for passengers and effective connection between cities and towns, the interconnection and interoperability of rail transportation networks at all levels in the metropolitan area has gradually become a development trend. It is of great practical significance to study the implementation conditions and the train plan for multi-modal rail transit systems based on interoperability in order to accelerate the integration of regional development, optimize the transportation supply and the spatial layout of the metropolitan area.Several researches on the implementation conditions and train plan of multi-modal rail transit systems in the metropolitan area are carried out.(1)Several modes of rail transit interconnection in the metropolitan area are discussed.First, the characteristics of urban rail transit, suburban railway, and intercity railway are compared. And then, based on the analysis of the joint operation modes of rail transit of several typical metropolitan areas such as Tokyo,Paris,Karlsruhe,Hong Kong and Chongqing, the paper proposes several modes of rail transit interconnection, and analyzes three operation organization schemes.(2)The implementation conditions are analyzed, which are required for the interconnection and interoperability of all levels of rail transit systems.Learning from domestic and foreign experience, the conditions of the interconnection between different rail transit systems are analyzed from the aspects of passenger flow conditions, engineering conditions, and operation management. This paper discusses the suitable operation plan for rail transit to realize interconnection.(3)The optimization model of train operation plan for rail transit interconnection is constructed.By analyzing the operational characteristics and passengers' travel choice behavior under the condition of rail transit interconnection, aiming at minimizing the operating cost of the enterprise and minimizing the travel time of passengers, and considering the constraints of passenger flow demand and line capacity,a bi-objective optimization model of train operation plan is established based on interoperability. The model can obtain the range of the track-sharing section and the service frequency of local trains and cross-line trains on the interconnected line.A fast non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm(NSGA-?)with elite strategy is designed to solve the proposed multi-objective model to obtain a set of Pareto optimal solutions for decision makers to choose.(4)Finally,a numerical example is given to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed model and algorithm, and discusses the influence of the route length constraint.Compared with the train operation plan under the traditional non-shared-track operation mode, the train operation plan under the shared-track operation mode can greatly shorten the travel time of passengers and improve the service level of rail transit. The sensitivity analysis method is used to study the impact of transfer time and the proportion of direct passengers on the train operation plan. The results show that the longer the transfer time is,the more significant the optimization effect of passengers' travel time;the greater the proportion of direct passengers, the greater the overall benefit of the implementation of interconnection and shared-track operation.
