With the rapid development of urban rail transit in China, cities such as Beijing and Shanghai have established their backbone networks gradually, and have entered the stage of network operation. At the same time, many other cities are constructing their rail networks, and the network characteristics are becoming more and more obvious. Through the integration of lines, Joint Operation of urban rail transit makes full use of network, reduces the transfer of passengers and improves the efficiency of resource utilization, so that it has been an important direction of rail transit development. This thesis focuses on Joint Operation of urban rail transit and its implementation, and mainly includes the following contents:(1) The basic concept, classification and main characteristics of joint operation are put forward. Firstly, we analyze worldwide typical cases of Joint Operation, from the aspects of background, development situation and implementation programmes. Based on these cases, the definition and classification of Joint Operation mode are put forward, and the advantages and disadvantages of Joint Operation are listed.(2) The ridership conditions for the implementation of Joint Operation are analyzed. Combined with foreign operating experience, we put forward the requirement of transfer ridership for the implementation of Joint Operation, according to the capacity at the lowest service level. Through the effect analysis of Joint Operation for different passengers, we find the requirement of the relative relationship between transfer ridership and non-transfer ridership, to guarantee that the time taken by all the passengers will reduce under the condition of Joint Operation. And we put forward simple indexes to determine whether the ridership meets the condition.(3) The engineering conditions for the implementation of Joint Operation are analyzed. Through the analysis of relationships between Joint Operation and subsystems of urban rail transit, we find civil engineering conditions and equipment conditions required for implementation of Joint Operation. We put forward different solutions and study the advantages and disadvantages of each solution.(4) The optimization model of train operation scheme for Joint Operation is established. Firstly, the impacts of passenger flow, economic, technical and other factors for train operation scheme are analyzed. Then, aiming at the minimization of passengers’ and enterprises’ costs, we establish a nonlinear optimization model of train operation scheme for Joint Operation, which guarantees that passenger demand is met within the line capacity. At last, we apply the proposed model and algorithm to an example, and get the optimal train operation scheme, so that the practicability and reliability of the model and algorithm are verified.
