The rapid growth of freight traffic brings opportunities and challenges to road transportation.Considering freight transportation is one of the major sources of environmental pollution and energy shortage issues, administration agencies and operational companies have to rethink how to provide the eco-friendly,intensive and efficient freight transportation services. The truck platooning technology contributes to reducing emissions, saving fuel consumption by smoothing operating mode and reducing air resistance. It is an effective means to increase ecological benefits. Therefore, this technology has great potential and practical significance for creating an eco-friendly freight transportation mode.In this thesis, the optimization of truck platooning scheduling plan is conducted based on the quantification of the impact of truck platooning on ecological benefits.Based on the improved Intelligent Driver Model(IDM),a Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control(CACC)model that is suitable for the truck platooning model under the connected vehicle environment is established.By using the Vehicle Specific Power(VSP)approach, the emissions and fuel consumption of the trucks in the platoon are quantified with the simulation based on MATLAB programming. In view of the quantified ecological benefits of truck platooning,an optimization model of truck platooning scheduling is proposed.First, the ecological benefits under the unit mileage of the truck platooning are quantified, and then a new strategy of truck operation at the hub is proposed,in which the CACC trucks with the same route form a platoon. The CACC trucks are scheduled to reach the maximum mileage in the same platoon. However, the strategy will increase the waiting time of trucks. Therefore, the ecological benefits of trucks and the time cost of waiting at hub are both considered in this thesis. An optimization model of truck platooning scheduling considering ecological benefits and time cost is proposed and the optimal solution of CACC truck platooning is searched that has maximum ecological benefits considering waiting time cost. After that, the genetic algorithm is used to solve the optimal value of objective function. Finally,a case study is conducted to find the optimal truck scheduling plan considering the different platoon sizes and departure intervals. The average cost saving per truck, emission reduction, and fuel saving under the optimization solution are analyzed. The results show that using the proposed model to optimize the truck platooning scheduling plan saves a certain amount of transportation costs, and has a significant effect on energy saving and emission reduction. The conclusions in this thesis provide theoretical support for the implementation of efficient and eco-friendly truck platooning scheduling strategy in the future.
