In recent years,the competition between enterprises in automotive industry of China is becoming more and more fierce,to develop the competitive products,first,it must meet the demand of customer,at the same time,lower cost and shorter development cycle is necessary.It is very important how to determine requirements and development plane quickly.It is not only the demand of the customers but also is the goal of enterprise to improve value of product.In order to optimize product,many methods are used,for example value engineering and benchmark,but they are applied separately,it is necessary to integrate VE and BM.Based on literature research,this paper mainly studies a method how to use value and benchmark in product development.Analytical framework and working routine are built on the application of VE+BM,based on cost driver analysis,analytical model and computational model are set up on the real cost.According to the research purpose,two fuel tank assembly are chosen as object to analyze,According to the theory of value engineering,value analysis is carried out on fuel tank,include FAST,cost analysis and value calculation,parts are found which will be improved in next step;three fuel tanks from competitors are chosen which will be analyzed,include structure,material,etc,According to the benchmark,seven proposals are obtained,five proposals are feasible.It achieved a good economic benefit,it is up to 1.5millon RMB each year.the result is successful.The main conclusions of this paper are as follows:(1)It has combining site and complementary that VE and BM are applied in product development to improve quality and to reduce cost,they can be combined with each other.(2)The core idea of VE+BM is from the framework of VE,BM is integrated in the stage of innovation,less subjective influence and less development cycle are come true.(3)To the cost of product,it is more meaningful that the real cost from research of factory than price.(4)VE+BM is applied to improvement of tank assembly,it proved that the method on VE+BM is feasible,and it can look fortarget accurately and found solution quickly.Based on the research results,countermeasures are proposed to further study the method on VE+BM:(1)To strengthen research of theory,to promote integrate application of different tools.(2)To optimize analytical process,to strengthen the combination with the development process.
