Renewable energy has grown strongly with an increasing share within the power sector in the recent decades. The strong growth is particularly enabled by the increasing competitiveness of wind energy for electricity generation, especially by lift-driven vertical-axis wind turbines.Aerodynamic behavior of rotor is the basis for the design of H-type verticalaxis wind turbines(H-type VAWT).Computational Fluids Dynamics(CFD)method is validated by experiments in a wind tunnel on a prototype of Htype VAWT and adopted to conduct a thorough numerical simulation. An optimized numerical modeling is discussed, based on the comparisons of experimental and numerical results. With these numerical techniques, aerodynamic behavior of any VAWT rotor can be investigated reliably. The thesis focusses on the aerodynamics of airfoil and the blade-flow field interaction of the specific VAWT.The relationships between power and rotation speed under various upstream wind speeds have been numerically investigated.Effects of rotor's solidity and blade pitch angle are studied by parametrical calculations. The thesis provides theoretical basis for VAWT design, control and optimization.
