To explore the influence of plant volatiles on potato storage,"Favorita" was used as material,potatoes storing in room temperature and low temperature(4?)were treated with different qualities of menthol,eucalyptus oil and jasmine oil by direct evaporation,respectively.Indicators including germination percent,weight loss percent,carbohydrate metabolism and soluble protein content were measured.Then the change of terminal bud was observed by stereoscopic microscope and paraffin section.The results were listed as follows:1.Menthol and jasmine oil can effectively inhibit potato germination,extend the potato storaged period and keep the quality of potatoes under both room temperature and 4? temperature.At room temperature,after 60 days storage,blank control(CK1)germination rate was 100%,the CIPC(CK2)germination rate was 6.70%,menthol processing were not germination.There was no germination of potatoes treated by menthol stored under room temperature,while began to sprout on 90d and showed bud necrosis on 150d when stored under low temperature,blank control(CK1)germination rate was 14.44%.In three of jasmine oil treatments,only 10ml jasmine oil was good for sprout inhibition,delayed germination 60d,eucalyptus oil cannot effectively delay the resting period of "Favorita".2.Menthol and jasmine oil can effectively keep potato starch content and dry matter content,reduce the loss of soluble protein,weight loss percent and the activity of amylase,and delay the increase of reducing sugar.When stored under room temperature,2.5g menthol and 10ml jasmine oil did best on extending dormance and keeping quality,Compared to the ending with CIPC,weight loss percent was reduced by 1.27%and 1.38%,reducing sugar content was reduced by 1.9%and l.5%,MDA content was reduced by 0.45?mol/mg and 0.36?mol/mg,amylase activity was reduced by 0.085 mg/(g·min)and 0.074 mg/(g-min),and starch content was increased by 0.50%and 0.41%,but eucalyptus oil did not work well,either,all indicators content were between blank control(CK1)and CIPC(CK2).When stored under low temperature,compared to CPPC,2.5g menthol and lOml/L jasmine oil showed that increasing strarch content by 0.17%and 0.39%,reducing reducing sugar content by 0.7%and 1.5%,reducing MDA content by 0.19 umol/mg and 0.39 umol/mg,reducing amylase activity by 0.012 mg/(g-min)and 0.039 mg/(g·min),respectively.Compared to the ending with CIPC,weight loss percent was reduced by 8.25%,and dry matter content was reduced by 4.84%.While showed no significant difference on soluble protein content.3.Blank control was observed to start to germinate at 20d and totally germinated at 28d by stereoscopic microscope.Menthol leaded to bud withering and necrosis and then bud cannot grow normally at later storage.Potatoes treated by jasmine oil germinated at 42d,was 20d later to germinate than CK,and the final germination percent was 11%.Menthol and jasmine oil can effectively inhibit potato germination,but maybe there were some differences of the mechanism.Menthol leaded to bud malformation and death and cell vacuolation,damaged cells next to bud eye irreversiblely,and destroyed the connection bud and the vascular bundle system of potato,affecting the supply of nutrients;at the same time,there was no bud germination,nutrient consumption,tuber starch grains degradation.Menthol is more suitable for commodity potato storage.Jasmine oil can prolong the resting period,and won't destroy the top of the tissue cells,or affect later growth of bud.Potato starch grains consumption was reduced,carbohydrate transported to new bud was suppressesed,and inhibited bud germination by reducing energy supply,and jasmine oil can be used for both commodity potato storage and seed potato storage.The results of the study provide the experimental basis for the development of potato storage new volatile agent.
