Study On Ornamental Characteristics And Cold Resistance Of Different Species Of North American Begonia

In order to provide good germplasm resources with better flower observation effect,long flowering time,strong winter ornamental and cold tolerance in northern cities and towns,the florescence characteristics of 18 North American Begonia varieties(including control)were observed by Chen Youmin phenological observation method,and the quantitative analysis method was used for the long fruit hanging period.The ornamental characteristics of 9 North American Begonia(fruit crinkle,bird food and color)were evaluated.The method of freezing damage index observation,electrical conductivity measurement and fitting the Logistic equation according to the relationship of electrical conductivity and temperature was used to calculate the semi lethal temperature of the 11 North American Begonia varieties(including control).The cold character is compared and evaluated.The results show that:There were significant differences in the early and late flowering and flowering duration of the 18 varieties of North American Begonia.And among the 18 species of North American Begonia,Malus ‘Kelsey’,Malus ‘Snowdrift’,Malus ‘Pink Spires’,Malus ‘Royalty’,Malus ‘Strawberry Parfait’ than other varieties of outstanding performance,with early flowering,long flowering,pink flower color and leaf color change.There were significant differences in the degree of shrinkage,the degree of bird feeding and the degree of fruit color of 9 varieties of North American Begonia.Of which: Malus ‘Donald Wyman’,Malus ‘Red Jewel’ fruit wrinkle-resistant ability,the bird food degree is light,the winter observation fruit character comprehensive performance is better;Malus ‘Sugar Tyme’,Malus ‘Adams’,the fruit wrinkle-resistant ability is strong,but the skin color and bird food level performance general,The comprehensive performance of the winter observation fruit was more common;Malus ‘Purple Prince’,Malus ‘Professor Sprenger’,Malus ‘Harvest Gold’,Malus ‘Sargent Tina’,Malus ‘Prairifire’,the fruit wrinkle resistance Weak,the bird food situation is serious,the skin color is dim,the winter Observation fruit character comprehensive performance is poor.There were significant differences in cold resistance among 11 varieties of North American Begonia.Of which: Malus ‘Pink Spires’,Malus ‘Mutant’ is strongest;Malus ‘Donald Wyman’,Malus ‘Professor Sprenger’,Malus ‘Harvest Gold’,Malus ‘Prairifire’,Malus ‘Sugar Tyme’ cold resistance is second;Malus ‘Red Jewel’,Malus ‘Adams’,Malus ‘Strawberry Parfait’,Malus micromalus(control),have poor cold resistance.In summary,joint selection of all tested varieties: Malus ‘Kelsey’,Malus ‘Snowdrift’,Malus ‘Pink Spires’,Malus ‘Royalty’,Malus ‘Strawberry Parfait’ flowering early,long flowering,and color,flower type,leaf color spring visual ornamental effect is good;Malus ‘Donald Wyman’,Malus ‘Red Jewel’,Malus ‘Sugar Tyme’,Malus ‘Adams’ in the winter Irrigationin period long and good results;mutated of malus,Malus ‘Pink Spires’,Malus ‘Donald Wyman’,Malus ‘Professor Sprenger’ these 4 varieties of early winter has a good effect and strong cold resistance,and is suitable for promotion in cold regions in the north.Among them,the winter ornamental characteristics and cold resistance of Malus ‘Donald Wyman’ is outstanding and belong to fine varieties.
