| The objective of the present study was to investigate the supplementation of Youjiannai(YJN)during the early period of weaning on the subsequent growth performance, skin appearance and the incidence of diarrhea. Two experiment were conducted. In experiment 1,A total of two hundred 21-d-old weanling piglets with bodyweight of 6.5±0.3 kg were divided into two groups(ten pens per group)to fed the control(CON)dietary regimen or YJN regimen. The CON group was a two-phase feeding regimen, including creep feed from age of d 21 to 35,followed by a nursing diets from the age of d 36 to 60.The YJN group consisted of three-phase feeding regimens: a liquid diet by diluting 1 kg YJN with 5 kg water which were provided to ten pigs in each pen from the age of d 21 to 23;a mixed feed by adding 1 kg YJN to 20 kg creep feed from the age of d 24 to 28;the similar diet to CON group from the age of d 29 to 60.Results: The average daily feeding intake at the age of d 21 to 23 in YJN regimen was greater than the CON regimen(P<0.05).The average daily feed intake, average daily gain and feed efficiency in YJN regimen was greater than CON regimen at the age of d 21 to 28,d 28 to 60 and d 21 to 60(P<0.05).The survival rate of piglets in YJN regimen was greater than that in CON group(P<0.05),and the incidence of weak piglets were less in YJN regimen than CON regimen. The incidence of diarrhea in both groups were lower than 10% and were not affected by dietary regimen. The skin appearance in YJN regimen was improved compared with the CON group. In experiment 2,a total of 60 21-d-old weaning weak and small piglets with the body weight 4.5 kg were randomly divided into three dietary regimens to feed the CON regimen,a normal creep feed without mixture with water;a YJN regimen by diluting 1 kg YJN with 5 kg water(YJN+water),or a YJN regimen by adding 1 kg YJN to 20 kg creep feed(YJN +creep feed). All feeding trials were conducted in delivery room and lasted 7 days. Results: the average daily feed intake and average daily gain was greater in both YJN+water and YJN+creep feed groups were greater than CON group(P < 0.01),but the feed efficiency was not affected in different groups(P > 0.05).The survival rate of week and small piglets at d 7 post-weaning was improved by both YJN regimens compared with CON regimen(P< 0.05).Compared with CON group, the incidence of diarrhea was lower in YJN regimens, and the skin appearance and fecal score were improved(P<0.01).Collectively,these results demonstrated that YJN was able to improve the growth performance and health during the early phase of weaning. The beneficial effects of YJN regimens was amplified for weak and small piglets with weaning weight lower than 5.5 kg. |
