The field investigation of variety resources for Bougainvillea were made in the south and southwest of China.The purpose is to collect its variety resources,and attempted to divide a variety of the species,established Bougainvillea classification retrieval table.That is to reflect and understand the general characteristics of Bougainvillea.This study of Bougainvillea varieties take the category,quantity and variety characteristics as major surveys,and understand Bougainvillea breeding,cultivation techniques,management,maintenance technology deeply.The records of Bougainvillea remians 32 main morphological characteristics,including 10 quantitative traits,leaf size(length × width),bracts size(length × width),length of thorn,length of pedicels,the number of stamens,the true flower diameter,internodal distance,length of petiole,and 22 quality traits,posture of branches,leaf shape,leaf color,leaf morphology,leaf hairy,petioles posture,the stem and thickness of bending,the type and the location of inflorescence,the color of the pedicel,the shape and flatness of the bud slice,bracts color,multi-petalled,flower color,perianth tube color,the edges and swelling of perianth tube,the smoothness of perianth tube,location of stamens.Making morphological classification and quantity analysis of Bougainvillea by using these main characters.The main conclusion are as follows:1.The survey collected 124 kinds of Bougainvillea with stable character.Besides,some new variants were found,and its genetic traits cannot be determined whether the character were stable,it is not included in the scope of this research.The "synonyms" phenomenon of Bougainvillea cultivars is very common,and it is a big obstacle to understand the variety resources correctly,so it need to be further planning of their names.2.As the results of principal component analysis(PCA): The multi-petalled is the first level of Bougainvillea classification standard;The perianth tube characteristics is the second classification criteria;The leaf size is the third classification criteria.And working out a classification retrieval table of Bougainvillea cultivars on the basis of the classification standard.3.Making cluster analysis on 32 characters of 124 varieties of Bougainvillea.The R type cluster analysis showed that most traits are independent between each other,so the variation between these characters and genetic will not interfere with each other,but there are still a few link on properties.In combination with principal component analysis,eliminating two traits,number of stamens and true flower diameter,and using the rest of 30 characters to make Q type cluster analysis.The ideal Q type cluster method on Bougainvillea is the Farthest neighbor chi-square measure.This study analyze genetic relationship and variety classification of Bougainvillea by using the clustering method.According to the clustering results,the classification of varieties of Bougainvillea is the multi-petalled,leaf size and the stem thorn.Bougainvillea cultivars can be divided into six groups,the multi-petalled and stem thorn groups,the multi-petalled and no stem thorn groups,the single-lobe and stem thorn with large leaf groups,the single-lobe and stem thorn with small leaf groups,the single-lobe and no stem thorn with large leaf groups,the single-lobe and no stem thorn with small leaf groups.
