Selenium is an essential element of the human body.It has the functions of inhibiting tumors,enhancing human immunity,and fighting cancer and anti-aging.Foxtail millet is recognized as a selenium-enriched crop.Therefore,in this experiment,52 different genotypes of foxtail millet cultivars were treated with foliar selenium in the grain filling stage.The morphological and physiological characteristics of different cultivars under selenium treatment were studied.The content of Se selenium,crude protein,soluble sugar and lysine,and the activity of superoxide dismutase SOD,peroxidase POD,and catalase CAT,were measured.The selenium accumulation high-efficiency and selenium accumulation inefficient varieties were selected and their physiological mechanisms were studied.The main results are as follows:(1)Fifty two millet germplasm resources were sprayed with 67.84 g·hm-2(1.05×10-3 mol·L-1)selenium fertilizer at the grain filling stage.The results showed that applying selenium fertilizer did not affect plant height,ear length and ear diameter of mature plants.In addition,no difference existed in the content of seeds soluble sugar and the activity of CAT,SOD,and POD of the seeds after harvest.(2)Fifty two millet germplasm resources were sprayed 67.84 g·hm-2(1.05×10-3 mol·L-1)of selenium fertilizer at grain filling stage.The results showed that the total selenium content in the millet grains was increased and the average increasing level was 6.18 times varying from 3.0 to10.03 times.The highest number,0.354 mg·kg-1,was found in one cultivar V9 from the core germplasm resources.(3)Fifty two millet germplasm resources were sprayed 67.84 g·hm-2(1.05×10-3 mol·L-1)of selenium fertilizer at grain filling stage.The results showed that compared with the control group,the yield of millet,crude protein content and the lysine content in millet grains were increased by 6.06%,3.97%,and 3.13%,respectively.(4)In this study,the quality of foxtail millet was determined according to the selenium treatmentresults of 52 millet varieties resources,using the membership function method Three varieties,Mongolian King,B375 and B160 were found having the high selenium content and excellent comprehensive quality.And three varieties with poor overall quality are B140,Xiangyuan Millet and B199.
