Whole crop corn silage has become one of the important technologies in modern dairy production.At present,this technology has been extended to most large-scale farms,and its good effect has been recognized by industry.However,the quality and application effect of silage vary greatly due to the variety selection,planting and processing level.Therefore,it is of great practical significance to study silage corn varieties.This paper mainly compared the biological yield,silage quality of three whole crop corn and the feeding effect in lactating dairy cows.The results could provide data reference to utilize the three silage corns,and to promote dairy cattle development.This study includes three parts:Experiment 1: Three typical varieties of silage corn(Yayu 04889,Jingke 968,Qiangsheng 103)were collected in the similar conditions,and the field performance were determined.The results showed that the fresh yield,dry matter yield,the fresh weight of the plant,the stem diameter and the number of10 m plants of Jingke 968 were the highest(P<0.05).The plant height and ear height of Yayu 04889 were significant higher than the other two varieties(P<0.05).It could be concluded that the Jingke 968 had the highest fresh yield and the biological yield.Experiment 2: Three whole crop corn silages after crushing weighed about 3.75 kg to make barrel silage.After 2 months of fermentation,the silage were evaluated for sensory,chemical,and digestive properties assessment.The results showed that the three silages were yellow-green color,soft,weak aroma.All of them were good silages.There were no significant difference in content of DM and EE between the three kind of silages(P>0.05).The content of CP in Yayu 04889 and Jingke 968 silages were significantly higher than that in Qiangsheng 103 silage(P<0.05).The content of starch in Yayu 04889 was significant higher than that in the other two silages(P<0.05).The in vitro gas production and in vitro dry matter digestibility of Jingke 968 silage were significantly higher than that in Yayu 04889 silage,andthere was no significant difference in DM,NDF and ADF digestibility among the three silages(P>0.05).In this experiment,there were highest crude protein,higher gas production and dry matter digestibility in Jingke 968 silage.Yayu 04889 silage contained the highest crude protein.Experiment 3: 45 healthy Holstein cows were randomly divided into three groups with 15 calves in each group.The diets of the three groups were all formulated into TMR diets in the same proportion of different whole crop corn silage.Group I,II and III was Yayu 04889,Jingke 968 and Qiangsheng 103 whole crop corn silages,respectively.The experiment lasted for 10 weeks,with 2 weeks of adaptation period and 8 weeks of formal period.The results showed that the dry matter intake and milk production in each group had no significant difference(P>0.05).Milk fat in group I was 0.18 percent higher than that in group III(P<0.05).Jingke 968 has the highest economic benefit.Overall,three whole-crop silages made from three corn varieties were systematically determined and analyzed to provide data support for the majority of feeders to select whole-crop corn varieties.
