With the development of global change and human activites, soil salinity is a common and serious environmental problem in the world.AM fungi can be treated as bioameliorators of soil salinity tolerance in plants.Morus alba is commonly distributed native trees in China, and now the mulberry industry is expanding from the Southeast China to the arid and salty inland, and so how to improve the salinity resistance of mulberry is the key issues to plant it in salty areas. It was known that mulberry is of high dependence on AM fungi, however, the researches about how the AM fungi can modulate the growth of mulberry plants under salt stress and whether there are sex-specific responses of mulberry trees under the combinations of salt stress and AM fungi are scarce.Aiming to solve these scientific questions, the mulberry species series no.14(?),series no.12(?/?)and series no.1(?)were used as the objective species;and in the greenhouse experiment, the experiment one with treatment groups of NaCl treatment(0mM?50mM?200mM NaCl)and fungicide and the experiment two with the treatment groups of the same NaCl treatment in experiment one and AM fungus inoculation were conducted to explore the modulation of native AM fungi and the nonnative AM fungus on the ecophysiological characteristics of mulberry under salt stress. The results showed that:(1 The modulations of native AM fungi or nonnative AM fungus on the growth of mulberry trees under salt stress were mainly under low salinity conditions, and under high salinity treatment, its effects were inhibited.Otherwise, there were sex-specific difference between the response patterns to the combinations of salt stress and AM fungi, and also, the experiment period had affects on the responses.(2)AM fungi had more significant effects on the growth of mulberry trees with high salinity resistance.Compared to mulberry sereise no.12(?/?),AM fungi had more significant effects on the salinity resistance of series no.14(?),and the increasement of K~+/Na~+?N concentration could be the underlying mechanisms. While AM fungi had more strong effects on that of mulberry series no.1(?)with comaration to series no.14(?),and the increase of Pro,Pn,N concentration,Zn concentration and K~+/Na~+maybe the underlying mechanisms.(3)Comparaed to the mulberry trees with high salinity resistance, native AM fungi or nonnative AM fungi preferred to inoculate the plants with low salinity resistance.
