In recent years, with the rapid development of Shanghai eco-city construction, the increasing demand for introducing well-adapted aromatic tree species exceeds supply, but there isn't a systematic propagation method for these species.Consequently, this study focused on this issue and researched the cutting propagation technique of Myrtus communis and Melaleuca alternifolia during the slack seasons autumn and winter. The main method was: Myrtus communis and Melaleuca alternifolia were treated with different cuttings/ cutting incision, matrixes and hormones, then rootage and growth of them were observed and measured to finally determine a best cutting method. The main results were as follows:Results of research on Myrtus communis showed that:(1)In terms of cutting rooting, the use of semi-lignified/ lignified cuttings, matrix of vermiculite: perlite: peat(1:2:7)and hormone ABT1 was the most beneficial to rooting of Myrtus communis cuttings.Among them,ABT1 had significant effect on rootage, while NAA had little significant influence.(2)In terms of cutting growth, the use of semi-lignified cuttings, matrix of vermiculite: perlite: peat(4:2:4)and hormone NAA was the most beneficial to growth of living Myrtus communis cuttings;(3)Considering,a method of cutting seedling of Myrtus communis during autumn and winter in Shanghai was: in the early cutting stage, choosing semi-lignified cuttings, matrix of vermiculite: perlite: peat(1:2:7)and hormone ABT1 could maximize the rooting rate of Myrtus communis, and after the survival of cuttings, the seedlings were transplanted to a seedbed with the matrix(vermiculite: perlite: peat(4:2:4))to make the cuttings grow rapidly. Results of research on Melaleuca alternifolia showed that:(1)In terms of cutting rooting, the use of oblique-cut lignified cuttings, matrix of vermiculite: perlite: peat(1:2:7)and hormone NAA was the most beneficial to rooting of Melaleuca alternifolia cuttings.Among them,NAA had significant effect on rootage, while ABT-1 had little significant influence.(2)In terms of cutting growth, the use of double-cut lignified cuttings, matrix of vermiculite: perlite: peat(1:2:7)and hormone NAA was the most beneficial to growth of living Melaleuca alternifolia cuttings;(3)Considering,a method of cutting seedling of Melaleuca alternifolia during autumn and winter in Shanghai was the use of oblique-cut lignified cuttings, matrix of vermiculite: perlite: peat(1:2:7)and hormone NAA.This study carried out a preliminary discussion and comparison of the rooting physiological base of Myrtus communis and Melaleuca alternifolia cuttings in the aspect of their cuttings' nutrition composition and oxidase activity. This study showed that:(1)content of carbohydrate and total nitrogen and C/N ratio in Myrtus communis were higher than those in Melaleuca alternifolia.(2)the activity of POD and PPO in Myrtus communis were higher than that in Melaleuca alternifolia, while the activity of IAAO in Myrtus communis was lower than that in Melaleuca alternifolia.
