Located in the south of China mainland, the South China Sea is one of the three marginal seas in the western Pacific Ocean. The South China Sea ecosystem is an important part of China's national ecosystem. It is of great significance to study the relationship between organisms and environment in the South China Sea for the protection and utilization of biological resources in the South China Sea.Historically, chinese scientists have carried out a systematic research on marine organisms and reef organisms in the South China Sea,but little research has been done on the biological species structure in the air.Yongxing Island(16°50.1?N;112°19.8?E),the biggest isle of South China Sea and 300 – 850 km away from southeast Asia,is a core point of South China Sea and main landing site to swept area of most migratory insects, which influenced by tropical marine monsoon climate. What's more,it may be a “transfer station” for migratory insects under suitable weather system as there is no arable land or suitable plants outside. It's beneficial for us to determine the structure of aerial insect community in spatio-temporal pattern, population dynamics and migratory insects by vertical search-light trap. Also,it could lay a foundation for clarifying the principle of migrants spread damage across regions and countries, and provide a theoretical basis for integrated pest management of agricultural insect pests, especially of migratory pests.Hitherto,a total of 243 insect species have been identified, belonging to 11 orders,75 families and 211 genera. And S.recurvalis,a small beetle of Tenebrionidae,S.furcifera,A.cerana and C.formosanus are dominant species of Coleoptera,Lepidoptera,Hemiptera,Hymenoptera and Blattodea which are dominant orders of aerial insect community on Yongxing Island, respectively. Moreover,The first three orders are Lepidoptera(99 species,40.74%),Hemiptera(56 species,23.05%)and Coleoptera(39 species,16.05%)in richness. But different richness orders exclude first three orders and different diversity orders derived from different methods. In total,39 migratory species, which contain almost agricultural migratory insect pests from what we collected and 6 main migratory natural enemies. The results determined 33 kinds of key pests,33 kinds of secondary pest,11 kinds of intermittent pests,66 kinds of occasional pests and 23 kinds of enemies of this region. In addtion, the relationship between the population dynamics of rice planthoppers(S.furcifera and N.lugens)and their natural enemies(C.lividipennis)has been identified. The results confirmed that many insect pests and their natural enemies are able to take a regular migratory activity around countries across the South China Sea,also enriched our understanding on insect community structure and species diversity in the region of South China Sea.This paper will give a reference for forecasting and integrated pest management.
