Manila clam(Ruditapes philippinarumis)is one of the shellfish cultures in China.Postharvest classification is very important for further processing and marketing of the clams. At present, the clam breeding enterprises in China mainly adopt manual or drum classification method, which is characterized by low efficiency, high labor intensity and low classification accuracy. Therefore,it is of great significance for the technological progress of clam breeding industry in China to conduct the research on the clam classification technology with high efficiency, precision and low loss. There are some problems in drum classification, such as high crushing rate and difficulty in adjusting classification level.Based on the research and analysis of clam shell shape and mechanical properties, this paper designs and completes the multi-stage roller clam automatic grading equipment, simulates and analyses the key components, and completes the experimental study of the grading performance of the prototype.Morphological characteristics of ruditapes philippinesis showed that the length, width and height of shell were positively correlated with their quality and showed normal distribution. The correlation coefficient between shell width and quality was 0.761.The clams could be divided into three grades: large(>17 mm),medium(>13-17 mm)and small(< 13 mm).In addition, the maximum static friction coefficients between clamshell and 304 steel,EPDM and PVC were 0.35,0.52 and 0.61,respectively.According to the technical requirements of classification, the shell width is taken as the classification index, and the classification roller is made of 304 steel.According to the characteristic of small and fragile shell of clams,a multi-stage roller grading structure technical scheme is proposed, and a grading mechanical model of clams is established. The design and calculation of clam grading mechanism, power system, transmission system and other components are completed.Through which, the accurate, low cost and low damage automatic grading of ruditapes philippinesis is realized. The three-dimensional model of the main components of the classifier is established by SolidWorks.Based on ANSYS,the static simulation analysis of the roller shaft of the classifier is carried out and the deformation and stress distribution of the roller shaft are solved, all of which shows that the yield strength of each roller shaft of the classifier meets the design requirements.Kinematics simulation analysis of clam classification was carried out by ADAMS.The variation law of velocity and acceleration of clams under different roll inclination and rotational speed was determined, and the reasonable technological parameters of clam classification were put forward. The single factor and response surface test results of the classification performance of the prototype show that the impact of feeding speed and roll inclination on the classification efficiency is significant, and the accuracy of clam classification is greatly affected by the rotation speed of roll and feeding speed. When the rotation speed, inclination Angle and feeding speed of roller shaft are 110 r/min,13° and 3 clams /s respectively, the classification accuracy reaches 98% without breakage. An important reference for the accurate, low loss and continuous classification of clams has been provided by this research.
