Burying beetles play an important ecosystem role in promoting the rapid decomposition of organic matter and nutrient recycling by burying small bodies in the soil.Nicrophorus maculifrons,Nicrophorus dauricus,Nicrophorus nepalensis and Nicrophorus concolor are burial beetle species that are active in the decomposition and utilization of small carcasses in forest habitats, and there is interspecies competition among them in the process of burying carcasses. In this experiment, from mid-May 2019 to late September 2019 in Maoer Mountain,20 newly hatched chick carcasses were placed in each of the five habitats of grassland, coniferous forest, korean pine forest,Larix gmelinii forest and mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forests near the experimental station in Laoshan each month,to observe the utilization of four kinds of Burying beetles involved in the burial of dead bodies in different months and time periods, and to investigate the burial differences of 4 species of Burying beetles in different temporal and spatialdifferences. The results are as follows:1?The dominant Burying beetles of successfully bury their carcasses in May is Nicrophorus maculifrons;no other three species of Burying beetles were observed during the month's experiment, and they're barely visible on the carcasses.2?In June, the number of Burying beetles involved in burying carcasses began to increase;in that month, all four Burying beetles successfully buried their carcasses, with the highest rate of burial carcasses of Nicrophorus nepalensis, followed by Nicrophorus maculifrons;Burial rate for Nicrophorus maculifrons in June decreased compared to May.3?In July, the rate of burial carcasses was similar to that in June.Unlike in June, the number of Nicrophorus maculifrons is significantly reduced and the rate of burial carcasses of its dropped significantly, the rate of burial carcasses of Nicrophorus dauricus was significantly increased;the dominant Burying beetles for that month were Nicrophorus dauricus and Nicrophorus nepalensis.4?In August, there was a more marked change in the type of Nicrophorus that were active on the carcasses;the number of Nicrophorus nepalensis in August increased significantly, and rate of burial carcasses of its is the highest in the month;the rate of burial carcasses of Nicrophorus dauricus was significantly reduced, and the rate of burial carcasses of Nicrophorus maculifrons was not seen activity in August, and the rate of burial carcasses of Nicrophorus concolor in August was the highest compared with other months.5?In September, the activity of each Burying beetles decreased significantly. In September, each Burying beetles had the same competition with the carcasses.Comparatively speaking, the rate of burial carcasses of Nicrophorus nepalensis is slightly higher, while the burial number of other Burying beetles was less.6?The difference in the rate of burying beetles in each month may be related to the seasonal changes in the number of burying beetles and their breeding habits.7?With the dynamic change of time,Differences in burial of the four species of Burying beetles to the carcasses in different time periods varies with different month. But generally speaking, the dominant burying beetles in each month spent more time on the carcasses, and the number of carcasses buried in each period is higher than that of other burying beetles. The results showed that the dominant burying beetles in each month had the strongest competition for corpses in each time period.8?The distribution of burying beetle species in ecologically similar habitats is similar to that of burying carcasses. The conditions of Burying beetles bury their carcasses in two habitats of coniferous forest and mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forests are similar; In both habitats,4 of the Burying beetles were involved in the burial of carcasses, the dominant Burying beetles that bury the carcasses in May is Nicrophorus maculifrons, the dominant Burying beetles that bury the carcasses in June is Nicrophorus maculifrons and Nicrophorus nepalensis, the dominant Burying beetles that bury the carcasses in July and August both is Nicrophorus dauricus and Nicrophorus nepalensis, the dominant Burying beetles that bury the carcasses in September is Nicrophorus nepalensis;Nicrophorus concolor is also mainly involved in burial and utilization in these two habitats. The conditions of Burying beetles bury their carcasses in two habitats of korean pine forest, and Larix gmelinii forest are similar,in both habitats, the dominant Burying beetles that bury the carcasses in May is Nicrophorus maculifrons;the dominant Burying beetles that bury the carcasses in June is Nicrophorus maculifrons and Nicrophorus nepalensis;the dominant Burying beetles that bury the carcasses in July and August is Nicrophorus nepalensis;fewer beetles bury the carcasses in September. There is very little burial activity in grassland habitats, and the rate of burial carcasses is low, most of which are buried by Nicrophorus dauricus. The change of habitat conditions in different months will affect the distribution of species of burying beetle in the habitat and further affect the burying beetle' burial.
