Based on concerns about the world's food security situation and the imbalance of resource allocation, some countries have actively innovated food supply channels and dispersed food security guarantee risks.Overseas farmland investment has attracted much attention due to the reality of transnational farmland resource utilization, the convenience of participating in the supply and demand of global agricultural products, and the effectiveness of enhancing investors 'global agricultural product competitiveness.Chinese companies have been extensively involved in this investment trend seeking external high-quality farmland resources to improve their agricultural level. The policy support for agriculture's "going global" strategy, the "Belt and Road Initiative","Innovative Agricultural Opening to the Outside World",and "Coordination and Utilization of Two Markets and Two Resources",it also provides a new opportunity for China to strengthen agricultural cooperation and exchanges with overseas countries and regions, achieve a high degree of integration of agricultural resources and technological advantages, and develop agricultural foreign investment. As of July 2019,China has carried out 343 overseas farmland investment projects in 56 countries around the world, which are widely distributed in Asia,Africa,Europe,South America and other regions, with a total area of 1598.923 million hectares,4.5 times larger than that in 2011,with a significant growth momentum. However, with the deepening of economic globalization, the influence of geopolitical relation on national economic activities, especially export-oriented economic activities, has become increasingly prominent.Ignoring the role of the law of geopolitical relation will intensify the risk challenges for foreign investment activities and even hinder the process of international regional economic cooperation. It can be seen that the problem of overseas farmland investment has become a new problem arising from global agricultural cooperation under a complex geographical pattern. To explore the host country distribution pattern of China's overseas farmland investment under the current geopolitical relation situation,to clarify the geopolitical factors that affect the host country's choice, which have a strong presence and necessity for optimizing the layout strategic of China's overseas farmland investment, enhancing the effectiveness of overseas farmland investment, strengthening China-global agricultural cooperation, and ensuring food security. In view of this, this article aims at exploring the distribution pattern and influencing factors of China's overseas farmland investment from the perspective of geographical relation.Using the literature analysis method, matrix analysis method and mathematical modeling method to analyze the distribution pattern and influencing factors of China's 49 overseas farmland investment host countries, the following research results are obtained:(1)The current overall level of China's overseas farmland investment is relatively low and the investment scale of each host country varies significantly.(2)The host country with good, investment scale show the characteristics of high-scale agglomeration in the regional distribution.Southeast Asia is the current high-scale agglomeration hotspot of China's overseas farmland investment.(3)The distribution pattern of China's overseas farmland investment is reasonable at the individual level of the host country, but the overall distribution pattern has obvious defects.(4)The regression results indicate that the main geo-factors that influence China's overseas farmland investment choices are the total number of government agencies abroad, the annual average foreign direct investment stocks, the annual average import and the aggregated numbers of statements, declarations and bulletin.(5)Compared with geo-cultural factors,geo-economic and geo-political factors have a more significant impact on the current pattern of China's overseas farmland investment.Overseas farmland investment in the form of transnational agricultural planting has become an important part of China's agricultural foreign investment. The government and enterprises attach great importance to the key research and judgment work related to examining the distribution pattern of China's overseas cultivated land investment in host countries and clarifying the geopolitical factors affecting the choice of host countries, which can provide a useful reference for scientifically and rationally optimizing the distribution pattern of China's overseas farmland investment, actively adapting to the changing environment of geopolitical relations, stably improving the effectiveness of overseas farmland investment, and jointly promoting the agricultural "going out".
