Pine wilt disease is a devastating disease of pine trees.Currently, the extension of B.xylophilus is not completely under control.Fungi is a new way of biological control of pine wood nematodes, and it has been documented that the volatile gases of fungi can be used to control root-knot nematodes.Natural volatiles released by fungus Annulohypoxylon sp.FPYF3050 were evaluated against the pine wood nematode. Our results showed that VOCs(Volatile organic compounds)caused 64.1% and 58.4% lethality on J2 and mixed-stage(eggs,J2,J3,J4,and adults)populations of PWN,but no inhibitive effects were detected on this nematode eggs in the experiment.Analysis of the gases in the Petri plate by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS)showed a yield of a unique volatile with dominant 1,8-cineole with 77.4% relative area(RA)in the treatment of Annulohypoxylon sp.FPYF3050 and B.cinerea with nematodes after 72 h.The commercial 1,8-cineole at concentrations of 2,5,10 and 15(?g/m L)was applied for examining nematicidal activity. The results showed that 1,8-cineole chemical was able to inhibite 39.8%-100% nematode eggs develop into J2 during 48 h treatment, more than 82.9% lethality on J2 in 24,48,96 h,and 18.7% to 91.9% mortalities on the mixed-stage population depending on check time in the experiment, the mortality was 18.7% to 91.9%.This result indicates that 1,8-cineole may play a crucial inhibitory effect on pine wood nematode in the volatile gas substances of the Annulohypoxylon sp.FPYF3050.The nematicidal volatile gas by fungi may provide a potentially useful biocontrol agent for controlling the pine wood nematode.
