In this study,32 hybrid rice combinations crossed by 4 indica dual-purpose genic male sterile lines(Wang S,N111 S,B621S and 023S)and 8 indica restorer lines(KDML105,Yuehesimiao,Yuejingsimiao,GuijingsimiaoHuanglsimiao,Huangguanghuazhan,Huahang 48,Xiangyaxiangzhan)obtained according to incomplete diallel design were used as materials.The milling quality,appearance quality,cooking quality and starch characteristics of rice were analyzed which planted in Sanya city of Hainan Province and Wangcheng county of Hunan Province.The differences of rice quality and starch characteristics between two different locations were discussed.The combining ability of rice quality traits and starch characteristics was investigated.The main results are as follows:(1)The rice quality of N111S/Yuehesimiao,N111S/Huangguanghuazhan,N111S/ Huahang 48,N111S/Yuejingsimiao,N111S/Huanglisimiao,Wang S/Yuehesimiao and 023S/Huanglisimiao reached the second or third grade edible indica rice variety standard in two locations.The results showed that the rice quality of seven hybrid combinations was good and less affected by the environment.(2)Milling quality traits such as brown rice rate,milled rice rate and head rice rate were controlled by both additive and non-additive effects,and the additive effect of restorer lines was more important.The length,the width and the length/width of grain were controlled by both additive and non-additive effects,and the additive effect of parents was more important.The chalkiness grain rate and the chalkiness degree were controlled by both additive and non-additive effects,and the additive effect of parents was more important than non-additive effect,the additive effect of sterile lines was more important than restorer lines.Amylose content and alkali spreading value were controlled by both additive and non-additive effects,and the additive effect of sterile lines was more important.The gel consistency was controlled by non-additive effects.(3)The RVA spectrum characteristic value of rice starch was controlled by both additive effect of sterile lines and non-additive effect,and was greatly influenced by additive effect of sterile lines.(4)023S and N111 S had good general combining ability of rice milling quality and appearance quality in 4 sterile lines,and Yuejingsimiao had good general combining ability of rice milling quality and appearance quality in 8 restorer lines.The results showed that these parents were easy to breed hybrid combinations with good milling quality and appearance quality.(5)Sterile line Wang S and restorer line Huahang 48 had good general combining ability of RVA characteristic spectrum of rice starch.The results indicated that Wang S and Huahang 48 were easy to breed hybrid rice combinations with good taste quality.(6)Varieties,sites and the intercropping of varieties and sites all had significant effects on 11 rice quality traits,including brown rice rate,milled rice rate,head rice rate,length-width ratio,grain length,grain width,chalkiness grain rate,chalkiness degree amylose content,alkali extinction value and gel consistency.Among them,five traits including milled rice rate,head rice rate,amylose content,alkali spreading value and gel consistency were mainly affected by genotype.(7)The viscosity of hot slurry was mainly affected by varieties and the intercropping of varieties and sites.Varieties,sites and the intercropping of varieties and sites all had significant effects on other seven RVA spectrum characteristic values,and the effect of genotype was more important.
