China is a large country in animal husbandry, and it is also one of the countries with the most frequent occurrence of animal diseases and the most serious economic losses in the world.Major animal diseases have the characteristics of sudden emergence, susceptibility, and rapid spread. In severe cases, they even endanger the lives of the public, hinder the development of the livestock industry, and seriously damage the national economy.African swine fever(hereinafter referred to as "ASF")broke out in August 2018 in China, causing heavy losses to farmers, declining pig production capacity and sluggish pig prices. In the early days of the outbreak, the interpretation and prevention of the "ASF" policies reported by domestic media and the effectiveness of science popularization were poor, and the public's lagging awareness of "ASF" caused some social panic and pork market turmoil. The media is the recorder, watcher, participant and builder of the era.It needs to bear the responsibilities of oversight risks, educating the public, informing developments, and issuing early warnings. After the epidemic broke out,the government, enterprises, and breeders coordinated prevention and control, and the media should play a role of information communication with precise, accurate and scientific epidemic reporting. The report of animal epidemic emergencies must ensure the timeliness, accuracy and objectiveness of the concept of reporting first, adhere to the people-oriented and correctly guide public opinion, and maintain a professional and effective trinity in order to do the best of the media and report,so as to alleviate social panic and soothe the public anxiety. This article collects reports on "ASF" from "People's Daily Online" ? "The Paper" ? "Farmers' Daily" and "Guangdong Xinmu Network" as samples. The purpose is to study the current situation of animal epidemic reporting in China with "ASF" as an example, analyze its shortcomings, and propose suggestions and framework for optimizing epidemic reporting to enrich the theory and practice of such reporting. The study found that there are many problems with domestic "ASF" reporting:(1)Multiple fields impact news objectivity and authenticity(2)Absence of subject quality eliminates dissemination of reporting power(3)The sensational and entertaining content made the hot spots out of focus(4)Articles are homogenous and lack of originality(5)Lack of interaction mechanism is difficult to solve the dilemma of media integration. After case analysis, literature research, and independent exploration, this article extracts suggestions for improvement:(1)Train professional journalists for epidemic reporting(2)Improve the reporting framework for animal epidemic emergencies(3)Optimize the media reporting model for epidemic reporting(4)Establish an interaction mechanism for the epidemic. Finally,a domestic animal epidemic reporting framework is proposed: a factual framework authoritative information and multiple presentations of data;a humanitarian framework rational reasoning and humanism;a professional framework the popularization of in-depth coverage of science popularization. This research selected "ASF" reports from various domestic news websites from August 2018 to December 2019 for qualitative and quantitative research. It conducted interdisciplinary research in journalism and animal husbandry from the perspective of health communication and scientific communication, which has certain academic value and innovation.
