| Objective With the development of the times, especially the increasingly advanced era of the Internet, aesthetics has become more and more important.Having a natural, harmonious, charming or pleasing smile clearly increases their popularity and improves personal relationships in society.Smile is one of the most important facial expressions and is a necessary condition for expressing feelings. In general, the need for aesthetics will motivate patients to seek orthodontic treatment. However, beauty is not absolute, but rather subjective. It is also influenced by cultural or ethnic factors and personal preferences.Due to subjective differences,it is difficult to measure the beauty of smiles.Orthodontists need specific reference standards to create attractive smiles.Compared with the creation of a perfectly functional treatment,a smile-perfect orthodontic scheme should be based on the aesthetic needs of the patient.Orthodontists have different facial aesthetic evaluations than nonprofessionals.Orthodontists tend to assess functional outcomes. However,if the aesthetic perception of orthodontists is not consistent with the perception of patient’s,the end of the correction may improve the occlusion function, but the patient will not satisfied with the final treatment results. Therefore,in the formulation of the treatment plan,we should fully understand the needs of the facial beauty of the patient and the expectation of the outcome of the treatment. Methods Two volunteers from Anhui were selected, one male and one female. They took a picture of their faces and smiles. They intercepted the front face of men and women by the software as the original picture, and changed one side of the picture of the man and the other while the other side performed.Mirror reflections to ensure that the two sides are completely symmetrical. The vertical distance between the maxillary central incisors and the lateral incisors were varied from 0 to 2 mm with a variation of 0.5 mm.Changes in the thickness of the exposed incisors were also digitalized, and 20 photos were obtained.A total of 40 orthodontists from 18 to 60 years of age in Anhui Province were selected as orthodontists, and 40 individuals from 18 to 60 years old who had no background in oral medicine were selected as the ordinary respondent group. The orthodontic group and the general interviewee group were used as the evaluation group. The two groups were divided into three groups according to their age;they used questionnaires to score the smiles of these 20 photos. Results The difference in the evaluation of the vertical distance between the orthodontic group and the general interviewee group, the maxillary incisor and the lateral incisor,P<0.001.There was a statistically significant difference between orthodontists and ordinary interviewees on the visual analog. The smile scores between different vertical distance groups were statistically significant. The change of the vertical distance of the maxillary incisor was p< 0.005,indicating that the change of the vertical distance of the incisor was statistically significant for the visual analog. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of vertical distance of maxillary central incisors and lateral incisors on the aesthetics of frontal view based on the difference between orthodontic doctors and ordinary interviewees. And whether gingival exposure affects aesthetic perception. Conclusion In the Anhui area, whether it is the ordinary interviewee group or the orthodontist group,it is considered that the smile of the maxillary incisors with a vertical distance of 0.5 mm is beautiful. There were significant differences in the evaluation of orthodontists when compared with the ordinary interviewees. As a result, orthodontic doctors need to fully respect the aesthetic needs of the patients before orthodontic treatment. There were significant differences between the evaluations of the smiles of the man and the woman. The changes in gingival exposure can affect the evaluator’s perception of the beauty of the smile. Therefore,in clinical orthodontic treatment in Anhui area, reference can be made to the values obtained from the above studies for aesthetic reference,in order to obtain a result that is satisfactory to both orthodontists and corrective patients. All patients can be satisfied with their smiles. |
