Objective:By investigating ICU nurses' mastering of the knowledge about hand hygiene, their practical implement under the circumstances when handwashing should be performed and the normalization of procedures of washing hands in a grade-A hospital,to acknowledge the overall situation of hand hygiene in ICUs of the hospital;also,by analyzing data collected, try to figure out better ways to standardize and improve the performance of hand hygiene in ICUs,which can reduce the incidence of nosocomial infections eventually.Subject and method:Subject:242 nurses from physical ICUs,surgical ICUs and general ICU were chosen as subjects.Methods:1.observe nurses ' practical performances when washing hands should be performed during special periods of time and record the situations covertly, also evaluate the procedures of washing hand;2.Questionnaire survey was carried out to look into the mastery of hand hygiene-related knowledge of ICU nurses.Data analysis: use SPSS 24.0 to analyze data collected and try to reveal relations between ingredients.Result:1.Implementation of hand hygiene: the average compliance rate of hand hygiene is 42.78 %± 11.72%,and there is no significant difference(P> 0.05)in hand hygiene compliance rate among staffs of different educational levels, seniority, professional titles and genders. The lowest three compliance rates of washing hands come the indications that: conditions after contacting with patients' privates(23.14 %± 37.66%),conditions after pissing of gloves(27.23 %± 30.66%),and before exposure to patients(28.09 %± 37.90%).The highest compliance rate of washing hands comes to condition after exposure to patients(60.87%±39.91%).The highest frequency of indication shows up during the survey is condition after removal of gloves(318 times).2.Procedures of washing hand: the highest qualification ratio of washing-hand procedures is wetting hands with flowing water(87.60%),the lowest qualification ratio of washing-hand procedures is executing six-steps handwashing(69.42%).3.Mastery of knowledge about hand hygiene: There is no significant difference in scores among nurses of different educational levels, seniority, professional titles, and genders(P> 0.05)in the survey carried out.The average score of knowledge about hand-washing indications is 8.91 ± 1.91,and the average score of knowledge about hand hygiene is 13.5±1.31.Astonishingly,there exists no significant correlation between scores and hand hygiene compliance rates(P> 0.05).Conclusion:Compared with other investigations, the hand hygiene compliance of the hospital is parallel to its counterparts, and the compliance can be bettered in variety of ways:1.Conditions of low compliance rate should be drawn more attentions, which can further decrease the rate of nosocomial infection;2.More training about the procedures of six-steps handwashing may need to be performed;3.Mastery of knowledge about hand hygiene does nothing to improve the compliance rate of hand hygiene,so it is time to find new ways of training or education.
