Gastrointestinal Bleeding Is An Independent Risk Factor For Poor Prognosis In GIST Patients

Aims To investigate the prognostic effects of gastrointestinal bleeding induced by mucosal invasion of stromal tumors and its related mechanism.Methods The clinical data of 178 patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors treated surgically from September 2007 to March 2016 in the First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University were retrospectively analyzed.We analyzed the data statistically after the prognosis-related data were collected by postoperative follow-up.Results The univariate analysis of the cause of gastrointestinal hemorrhage induced by stromal tumor shows that gastrointestinal bleeding is related to tumor size,tumor location,tumor T stage,tumor M stage and whether performed R0 resection or not.Multivariate analysis indicates that tumor location is an independent factor leading to gastrointestinal bleeding(P = 0.006).Furthermore,we also ran an analysis of recurrence related factors.The univariate analysis shows that tumor size,tumor T stage,tumor M stage,gastrointestinal bleeding condition,and whether performed R0 resection or not are related to tumor recurrence,while multivariate analysis shows that gastrointestinal bleeding is an independent factor associated with gastrointestinal stromal tumor recurrence(P = 0.026).Survival analysis indicates that the gastrointestinal bleeding was an independent risk factor leading to the death of patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumor(P = 0.039).Conclusion Gastrointestinal stromal tumor gastrointestinal bleeding more prone to recurrence of poor prognosis.Therefore,gastrointestinal bleeding may be one of the important indicators to assess the risk of relapse in patients with stromal tumors.
