Part ? An experimental study:evaluating the tissue components of penis with ShearWaveTM ElastographyObjective:Investigate the feasibility of ShearWaveTM Elastography(SWE)on evaluating the penile tissue components.Methods:Twenty male Sprague Dawley rats were divided into the pre-sexual maturity group(Group 1,5-6 weeks)and the sexual decline group(Group 2,52-60 weeks),each group consisted of 10 rats.The ultrafast ultrasound device-AixplorerR(SuperSonic Imagine)was used for SWE imaging of penis,the measurement index was shear wave elastic quantitative measurement,(SWQ)and the unit was kPa.After ultrasound examination,the rat was sacrificed and the penis was cut off for histological analysis.HE staining was used to analyze the penile tissue components.The immunohistochemical staining was used to analyze the expression of type ?collagen in penis and the measurement index was the positive area percentage of type? collagen(PAPc).The differences of penis SWQ,PAPc between the two groups were compared and the correlation of SWQ with PAPc of the two groups was respectively analyzed.Results:(1)Penis SWQ of Group 2 was significantly lower than Group 1(8.45±1.85 kPa Vs 9.75±1.06 kPa,p<0.01);(2)the number and density of sinusoids,smooth muscle cells and fibrocytes of Group 2 were higher than Group 1 and the arrangements were also more closely;(3)PAPc of Group 2 was significantly higher than Group 1(18.21±7.90%Vs 3.02±1.06%,p<0.01);(4)for the two groups,penis SWQ was significantly correlated with PAPc(p<0.01)and the correlation coefficient was respectively-0.574(Group 1)and-0.586(Group 2).Conclusion:There are significant differences of SWE value of penis when penile tissue components are different,SWE is expected to be a new noninvasive method of evaluating the change of of penile tissue components.Besides,SWE can be used to quantitatively analyze the content of collagen fibers in penis.Part ? A clinical study on evaluating the change of tissue components of cystic thyroid nodules after percutaneous ethanol injection with ShearWaveTM ElastographyObjective:Monitor the change of tissue components of cystic thyroid nodules(CTNs)after percutaneous ethanol injection(PEI)with SWE and analyze the clinical value of SWE on evaluating the efficacy of PEI.Methods:Thirty consecutive patients with 30 CTNs between August 2014 and June 2015 were selected in the study.After being confirmed as benign nodules by fine needle aspiration cytology,PEI was performed in all patients.The symptomatic evaluation,cosmetic evaluation,conventional ultrasonography(two-dimensional ultrasonography and color Doppler flow imaging)and 2D-SWE examination were carried out at 24 hours and 30 days after PEI.The ultrafast ultrasound device-AixplorerR(SuperSonic Imagine)was used for the research.The transverse and longitudinal sections of the solid areas of CTNs were selected for SWQ measurement and then the average was calculated,the unit was kPa.The differences of the indexes of symptomatic,cosmetic and ultrasonographic evaluation of the nodules at 24 hours and 30 days after PEI were compared.Results:SWQ of the solid areas of CTNs measured at 30 days after PEI was significantly higher than 24 hours(21.48±6.05 kPa Vs 18.03±5.44 kPa,p<0.05).However,there were no significant differences of the results of symptomatic,cosmetic and conventional ultrasonographic evaluation(p>0.05).Conclusion:The nodule SWE value has changed significantly within 30 days after PEI and the change of SWE value is more sensitive than others indexes.SWE may serve as a new method of evaluating the efficacy of PEI.
