Purpose:To evaluate the outcome of pars plana vitrectomy(PPV)com bined with scleral buckle(SB)for the removal of retained intraocular forei gn bodies(IOFB)with retinal detachment(RD).Methods:Retrospective,24 eyes underwent 23 gauge PPV for the rem oval of retained IOFB with RD.They were divided into two groups accor ding to the way of surgeries.group A:23 gauge PPV combined with SB f or the removal of retained IOFB and endolaser photocoagulation/ transscle ral cryotherapy combined with silicone oil(SO)tamponade included 12 eye s.group B: 23 gauge PPV for the removal of retained IOFB and endola ser photocoagulation/transsclera transscleral cryotherapy combined with SO tamponade included 12 eyes.Recorded the rates of anatomical and visual function success, recorded the intraocular pressure and other incidence of t he complications after surgery.Results:24 cases of IOFB were successfully one-time removed. There was only one case fail to reattach the retina in group B.1 case of RD after SO removal in group A,and the rate was 8.3%.4 cases retinal redetach ment in group B,the rate was 33.3%,1 case received further operation, the rate of eventually anatomical success was 75.0%.Best corrected visual acui ty(BCVA)was recorded with the logarithm of the minimum angle of res olution(LogMAR);Eventually postoperative BCVA:mean value of group A was 1.0±0.3,and group B was 0.8±0.4(t=1.814,p=0.080).Intraocular pressur e(IOP):There were 6 cases of transient high IOP in group A,and 3 cases i n group B;the rate of complicated cataract was 100%.Conclusion:PPV combined with SB for the removal of retained IOFB with RD is a feasible, effective approach with higher rates of anatomical success.
