Backgrounds Distant metastasis is the main cause of death in small cell lung cancer(SCLC),and bone is one of the common sites of metastasis.This study aims to analyze the prognostic factors and clinical characteristics of SCLC patients with bone metastasis.Patients and Methods The characteristics of all SCLC patients with bone metastasis in the Shandong Tumor Hospital from January 01 2012 to December 31 2015 were analyzed.Kaplan-Meier method was applied to estimate overall survival(OS).Cox regression analyses were performed to explore prognostic factors for BM.Results A total of 106 patients with median age of 58 years(range,38-83)were eligible,median overall survival(mOS)is 13.5 months.Univariate analyses showed smoking history(P=0.001),hepatic metastases(P=0.002),ECOG score(P=0.004),number of bone metastatic regions(P=0.004),alkaline phosphatase(ALP)(P=0.010),therapeutic pattern(P=0.016),TNM classification(P=0.020)?combination of other organ metastasis(P=0.034)were associated with the prognosis.In the multivariate hazard model analyses showed number of bone metastatic regions(P=0.003,HR = 0.090,95%CI 0.018-0.450),ECOG score(P=0.046,HR = 0.513,95%CI 0.267-0.987),hepatic metastases(P=0.032,HR = 2.121,95%CI 1.068-4.215)were independent prognostic factors for the SCLC with BM.Conclusions Smoking history,hepatic metastases,ECOG score,number of bone metastatic regions,alkaline phosphatase(ALP),therapeutic pattern,TNM classification,combination of other organ metastasis were associated with the prognosis.Number of bone metastatic regions,ECOG score,hepatic metastases were independent prognostic factors for the SCLC with BM.Further investigations are needed to confirm our findings.
