Objective To explore correlation of free fatty acids in insulin resistance patients with increased carotid artery intima-media thickness. Methods From January 2017 to September 2018,160 inpatients who visited the first affiliated hospital of xinjiang university of medical science and treated with OGTT and insulin release test were randomly selected to establish a database.90 patients who met the criteria were included according to insulin resistance combined with increased carotid artery intima-media thickness and non-thickening,and were divided into two groups:45cases of insulin resistance without increased carotid artery intima-media thickness and cervical plaque formation.Meanwhile,45 cases of insulin resistance with increased carotid artery intima-media thickness. The blood biochemistry texts of two groups of free fatty acid(FFA),plasma insulin,Insulin resistance level(homa-ir),body mass index(BMI),blood glucose, total cholesterol(TC),triglycerides(TG),high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)were performed. Results Logistic regression results showed that LDL-C,abdominal circumference and fasting insulin levels were independent risk factors for insulin resistance associated with carotid intimal thickening(OR=1.251-8.701,P<0.05).Pearson correlation analysis suggested that free fatty acids, insulin resistance index, and HbA1 c levels were positively correlated with increased carotid artery intima-media thickness. Conclusions The increased level of free fatty acids may be directly related to increased carotid artery intima-media thickness or the formation of cervical vascular plaques.
