ObjectiveTo develop an instrument for measuring health informtion needs in Chinese thyroid cancer patients and to test its reliability and validity.Exploring the level of information needs of differentiated thyroid carcinoma patient with radioactive iodine therapy and their first optimal information needs,so as to provide reference for the system construction of comprehensive, systematic and continuous accurate information support scheme.MethodsThis study was divided into two parts.1.Development and evaluation of the questionnaire.Based on the ERG theory, literature research and qualitative research results, the first draft of information needs assessment questionnaire for differentiated thyroid cancer patients with radioactive iodine therapy was accomplished. Then,it was evaluated by two rounds of Delphi experts consultation. After that, the preliminary test draft of the questionnaire was formed. The later investigation mainly includes three stages:230 cases of questionnaires were investigated in the first stage, and 30 cases were investigated in the second stage.Exploratory factor analysis and retest reliability analysis were conducted respectively with IBM SPSS 21.0 version. In the third stage,534 questionnaires were investigated and the confirmatory factor analysis was carried out using AMOS.2.Application of the Questionnaire.IBM SPSS 21.0 version was used to conduct descriptive statistics and one-way anova was used to analyzed the data of the third stage in part I,so as to explore the level of information needs and its influencing factors in differentiated thyroid cancer patients treated with radioactive iodine therapy.Results1.Thyroid Cancer Patients Health Informtion Needs Assessment Queationaire consisted of 33 items. The total scale’s Cronbach’sαcoefficient was 0.945,split-half reliability coefficient was 0.822,2-week test-retest reliability was 0.984.Exploratory factor analysis extracted five common factors, and the cumulative variance contribution rate was 61.858%.The content validity index(S-CVI)of the total queationaire was 0.928.The factor loading of all the items were above 0.4 in CFA,and the fitting index including chi-square index/degrees of freedom=2.533, GFI=0.892,NFI=0.908,IFI=0.943,CFI=0.942,RMSEA=0.054,AGFI=0.864,TLI=0.932.2.The mean of total information needs was(63.27±20.55).The information needs of rehabilitation and radioactive iodine therapy was highest.Age(younger)and sex(femel)and recidence(urban)and educational level(higher)and income(middle)and didn’t have history of 131I therapy and time of diagnose(shorter)were significantly associated with a higher total amount of information needs(P<0.05).ConclusionThyroid Cancer Patients Health Informtion Needs Assessment Queationaire consisted of 33 items which included 31 theme items and 2 overall evaluation items. The questionnaire contains 5 dimensions,disease-related information, examination and surgery related information,131I therapy related information,home-based rehabilitation related information and psycho-social related information. This questionnaire had great reliability, validity and stability, and all indexes meet the measurement standards. The level of information needs of differentiated thyroid carcinoma patient with radioactive iodine therapy was high.Patients who were young, femel, living in the urban, having higher educational level, middle income, having first 131I therapy and shorter disease diagnosis time were key groups of the information support.
