Aim: Thyroid cancer is a common endocrine-related cancer with a higher incidence in females than in males,a large proportion of which are differentiated thyroid cancer(DTC).Post-operative radioactive iodine(RAI)therapy is a very necessary treatment for DTC patients. We aimed to explore the association between platelet(PLT)parameters and RAI therapy times in patients with DTC during the present study.Materials and method: This cross-sectional study recruited essential information of569 DTC patients who have received total thyroidectomy and once or more RAI therapy(160 male,409 female;416 <55years,153 ≥55 years).Clinical data of the enrolled population included mainly serum parameters.Database was sorted by gender and different age groups. The statistical indicators including PLT count, plateletcrit(PCT),platelet distribution width(PDW),mean platelet volume(MPV)and platelet large cell ratio(PLCR),and each of them was analyzed separately. The data were first tested for normality, and then the nonparametric rank sum test was used to observe whether there were statistical differences in data distribution between different genders and age groups. Then all parameters were divided into four quartile groups to analysis the probability of achieving clinical remission status after the first RAI therapy.Spearman correlation was used to analyze the relationship between RAI therapy frequency and PLT parameters.Crude and adjusted odds ratios(OR)of PLT indices for once RAI therapy with 95%confidence intervals were analyzed by binary logistic regression models. Results:We found there were significant differences among different genders in WBC,RBC,HGB,PLT,N,L and PCT.For further age grouping statistics under different genders, there were significant differences in the distribution of HGB,PLT,L and MPV in different age groups among male patients(P<0.05).And there were statistically significant differences in the distribution of HGB,PLT and PCT among female patients in different age groups(P<0.05).However,the probability analysis of clinical remission after the first RAI therapy in different quartile groups was not statistically significant. From receiver operating characteristic(ROC)analysis and binary logistic regression models, only PLT count showed positive values for once RAI therapy in females and patients younger than<55 years, although the OR with several covariates has no significance. Conclusion:This study displayed that only in females and patients younger than 55years old,PLT has certain reference value for achieving complete remission after the first RAI therapy. While,PLT indices could not be used as a predictive marker for achieving clinical remission status after the first RAI therapy in patients with DTC.
