ObjectiveColorectal cancer is a common malignant tumor in clinical practice and poses a great threat to people’s health.Early diagnosis has an important role in the prognosis of the tumor. The TFFs family includes:TFF1(breast cancer-associated peptide),TFF2(antispasmodic polypeptide),and TFF3(intestinal trefoil factor). The TFFs proteins(TFF1,TFF2 and TFF3)are composed of at least one 40 amino acid protein domain with three conserved disulfide bonds, which is called a clover pattern, and TFF is expressed separately in the entire digestive system.TFF1 and TFF2 are often expressed in the gastric and duodenal epithelium.TFF3 is usually expressed in the intestinal goblet cells. When the gastrointestinal mucosa is mechanically or chemically damaged,TFFS can rapidly coordinate the secretion of mucus secreting cells.Recent studies have shown that TFF1 is present in a variety of cancer tissues, such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, etc, and appears to be a specific gastric tumor suppressor gene, while TFF2 and TFF3 are thought to increase tumor invasion and Metastasis increases tumor progression, however, the more precise role of TFFs in human tumors is unclear. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the relationship between TFF1 in the development and progression of colorectal cancer and to analyze the relationship between TFF1 and clinical pathology of colorectal cancer.MethodsA total of 294 cases of colorectal cancer and related clinicopathological data of general surgery in our hospital from January 2010 to March 2015 were collected.Tissue samples of intestinal cancer were prepared into tissue microarrays.Immunohistochemistry(SP)was used to detect TFF1 in intestinal cancer tissues.Express the situation and explore its relationship with clinical pathology data.ResultsImmunohistochemistry showed that the positive expression rates of TFF1 in colorectal cancer tissues and corresponding adjacent tissues were 73.6%(187/254)and 46.9%(119/254),respectively.The expression of TFF1 in tumor tissues was significantly higher than that in adjacent tissues(P<0.01).The expression of TFF1 in intestinal cancer was correlated with clinical(TNM)staging(2=5.681,P=0.017),but there was no significant difference between clinical and pathological data such as gender, age and location of cancer. The K-M curve showed that the survival of patients with colorectal cancer was associated with high expression of TFF1,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.01).COX regression analysis showed that TFF1 expression,TNM stage, and age were independent prognostic factors(P<0.05).ConclusionsThe expression of TFF1 is highly correlated with the occurrence and development of colorectal cancer. It is a potential factor for judging the invasive ability of intestinal cancer and predicting the prognosis of patients with intestinal cancer.
