Objective:Based on the the modified USPHS evaluation system, the short-term clinical efficacy of the composite resin onlay restoration of deciduous molars with different defect degrees after root canal treatment was discussed, providing a reference for the selection of the restoration of primary molars. Methods:According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria,a total of 61 deciduous molars were selected from 42 children who were admitted to the Department of Conservation Dentistry and Endodontics,Shanxi Medical University and Hospital of Stomatology from September 2016 to June 2017 and required crown restoration after RCT.Tooth preparation was performed according to the principle of cavity preparation. The selected cases were divided into the one-wall defect group and the two-wall defect group according to the number of defect tooth walls after preparation.One-wall defect group included 19 children,a total of 28 primary molars and two-wall defect group included 23 children,a total of 33 of primary molars. Two groups of prepared teeth were repaired with resin onlay.According to the modified USPHS criteria, six assessment indexes, comprising of marginal adaption, tooth integrity, restoration retention, gingival state, secondary caries, wear degree were evaluated immediately,6 months,12 months after the restoration. The assessment results are statistically analyzed.Results:1.basic database There were no statistically significant differences in gender, age and tooth position distribution between the two groups(P > 0.05).That is to say,the baseline data of the two groups are consistent, and there is comparability between the two groups.2.the effect of restoration evaluated based on the MUSPHS evaluation system(1)In the one-wall defect group and the two-wall defect group, the “marginal adaption”,“tooth integrity”,“restoration retention”,“gingival state”,“secondary caries”and “wear degree” were examined immediately after repair. All the evaluation indexes of the two groups reached grade A and the repair was successful.(2)Follow-up results at 6 months obtained for both groups:No deciduous teeth were found minssing in both groups at 6 months. There were no significant differences in the incidence of “marginal adaption”,“tooth integrity”,“retention”,“gingival state”,“secondary caries” and “wear degree” between the one-wall defect group and the two-wall defect group(P > 0.05).In the one-wall defect group(28),one onlay fell off,and the "retention" was rated grade C and then was removed from the experiment;the remaining 27 restorations were of grade A,evaluated as successful. In the two-wall defect group(33),the "marginal adaption" and the "tooth integrity" of one restoration were rated B;The "marginal adaption" of one restoration was rated B;and "gingival state" of one restoration was rated B.All indexes of the remaining restorations were of grade A.33 restorations were successful.(3)Follow-up results at 12 months obtained for both groups:No deciduous teeth were found minssing in both groups at 12 months. There were no significant differences in the incidence of “marginal adaption”,“tooth integrity”,“retention”,“gingival state”,“secondary caries” and “wear degree” between the one-wall defect group and the two-wall defect group(P > 0.05).In one-wall defect group(27),one onlay "marginal adaption" of one restoration was rated B and "wear degree" of one restoration was rated B.All indexes of the other 26 restorations were evaluated as grade A.27 restorations were evaluated as successful. In two-wall defect group(33),one onlay wore,"wear degree" rated B.All the indexes of the other restorations were evaluated as grade A.33 restorations were successful.(4)At the time point of 12 months, there was no significant difference in success rate between the two groups(P > 0.05).Conclusion:It is feasible to use resin resin onlay restoration to repair the primary molars with one-wall defect and two-wall defect after RCT and the difference in the success rate at 12 months is not statistically significant.
