OBJECTIVE:Through retrospective analysis of related risk factors about pediatric airway stenosis caused by endotracheal intubation based on clinical data and to summarize corresponding treatment measures and treatment progress in order to provide thoughts for future clinical practiceMETHODS:To collect children(n=280)with a history of endotracheal intubation treated in department of ENT of Xinhua hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong university school of Medicine surgery from 2004 to 2015,children got airway stenosis caused by endotracheal intubation(n=56)were enrolled,of which clinical data were retrospectively analyzed.Statistical analysis of experimental data was processed by SPSS 22.0 software. All data were expressed as mean±SD.RESULTS:A total of 280 cases with a history of pediatric endotracheal intubation from 2004 to 2015,among which there were 56cases have got airway stenosis after treated with endotracheal intubation, the main causes were mechanical injury(n=15,x~2=23.610,P<0.05),long duration of mechanical ventilation(n=12,x~2=12.786,P<0.05),using intubation canula with airbag(n=12,x~2=20.923,P<0.05),gastroesophageal reflux(n=6,x~2=4.240,P<0.05),repeated respiratory infection(n=3,x~2=9.162,P<0.01)and individual factors(n=6,x~2=7.940,P<0.05).And mechanical injury, long duration of mechanical ventilation and using intubation canula with airbag were possibly acting as the independent risk factors for airway stenosis caused by endotracheal intubation in children.CONCLUSION:There was a high incidence of airway stenosis caused by endotracheal intubation. The main induction factors involved into mechanical injury, long duration of mechanical ventilation and gastroesophageal reflux, repeated respiratory infection, and individual factors. Therefore, etiology should be determined as soon as possible and made accurate diagnosis and timely treatment in clinical practice,to reduce incidence rate of airway complications after endotracheal intubation, which was contribute to improve children’s quality of life.
