ObjectiveThe effects of carotid artery stenting in patients with carotid artery stenosis as well as vascular cognitive impairment were discussed and evaluated by meta analysis.MethodsThe inclusion criteria, exclusion criteria and search strategies of the original literature were established. The study relating to cognitive function changes before and 6months after CAS(Carotid Artery Stenting)evaluated by MMSE(Mini-mental State Examination)were found by searching in the database of CNKI,Wanfang,Weipu,PubMed,Web of Science and MEDLINE.All researches were evaluated on the NOS(Newcastle-ottawa Scale). The included literatures was quantitatively evaluated by Revman5.3,analyzed for weighted mean difference(WMD)of MMSE score and its 95% confidence interval(CI).ResultsA total of 8 literatures were included in this study.449 patients received CAS,and their MMSE scores before and 6 months after treatment were counted and combined.Six months after CAS,MMSE score of the patients increased compared with that before, and the difference was statistically significant(WMD=3.00,95%CI=1.41-4.58,Z=3.70,p<0.001).The sensitivity analysis suggested the study in literature2(Yong Cheng,2008)had a great influence on the overall combined effect, while Other studies had little influence. The subgroup(patients with symptomatic carotid artery stenosis)analysis suggested the difference of MMSE scores between 6 months after CAS and before was statistically significant(WMD=4.17,95%CI=3.19-5.14,Z=8.34,p<0.001).ConclusionCAS improved cognitive function of carotid artery stenosis patients with vascular cognitive impairment.
