Objective:Sternotomy is required for sternal diseases such as sternal tumor and tuberculosis. However, the safety and feasibility of anastomosis of sternal resection grafts for chest wall reconstruction have always been difficult problems in clinical research. In recent years, the rise of 3D printing technology has provided technical support for the artificial sternal reconstruction of the chest wall.By reviewing the cases of received sternal diseases,we summarized the experience of 3D printed artificial sternum in the reconstruction of chest wall after sternal resection and evaluated the efficacy. Methods:By reviewing the patients with sternal mass admitted from September 2016 to December 2018,we screened 5 patients who underwent sternal tumor resection and 3d-printed biological material chest wall reconstruction, including 3 males and 2 females, aged 51.4±11.65.Results:All patients underwent chest wall resection and chest wall reconstruction, and 3d-printed titanium alloy materials were used as the materials for chest wall reconstruction. The operation time was 4.15±1.34 hours.Postoperative pathology showed chondrosarcoma in 2 patients and metastatic bone tumor in 2 patients, and anotherone is tuberculosis.Major postoperative complications included pulmonary infection and hypoalbuminemia.Postoperative hospital stay was 12.4±4.62 days.Duration of drainage tube7.6±1.95 days, the patients were followed up for 3 months, six month and one year, and one patient had tumor recurrence, one patient had prosthetic loosening. Conclusion:Using 3D printing titanium prosthesis for chest wall reconstruction is quickly and easily, alsois safe and effective, and can provide individualized treatment for the patients, promote postoperative recovery, reduce the postoperative complications, the biggest repair the chest wall defect and restoration of chest wall aesthetics. However, the materials needed to print the prosthesis need to be further improved and the printing technology needs to be further improved to reduce postoperative complications and promote healing.
