Objective: To study the changes in fish intakes and cognitive levels of residents aged 55 and over in Hubei Province, and to further explore the correlation between fish intake and cognitive function levels in the elderly, providing scientific and theoretical basis for dietary guidance and nutrition policy formulation.Method: Using the data of 5 rounds of "China Health and Nutrition Survey" project in Hubei Province. The first part of the study used variance analysis and chi-square test to analyze the changes in fish intake and cognitive level of residents aged 55 and above in each round of surveys in Hubei Province from 1997 to 2005.The second part of the study included all 753 subjects aged 55 years and over who were evaluated for cognitive function in the five surveys from 1997 to 2015.Different adjustment models were established by incorporating different covariates, use multiple linear regression to evaluate the regression coefficients and 95% confidence intervals(CIs)between fish intake and cognitive level in the elderly.Results:(1)From 1997 to 2015,the average fish intake of residents aged 55 and over in Hubei Province showed a trend of decreasing first and then increasing and then decreasing(F=3.77,P<0.05).(2)There was no statistically significant difference in the average cognitive function test scores of residents aged 55 and over in Hubei Province in each round of survey(F=0.31,P=0.873),but the average cognitive function test scores of rural residents were significantly different(F=2.86,P<0.05).(3)In each round of survey, the proportion of people with low cognitive level among residents aged 55 and above in Hubei Province showed an overall downward trend, the difference was not statistically significant(χ2=7.51,P=0.111);among them, female residents and rural residents The proportion of people with low and middle cognitive levels showed a downward trend, and the difference was statistically significant.(4)Higher levels of fish intake were positively correlated with the high cognition test scores of the elderly population. In unadjusted model, model 1,model 2,and model 3,regression coefficients(95% CI)of the elderly with fish intake levels >100g/d were 3.11(1.45,4.77),2.54(0.94,4.15),2.68(1.09,4.27),and 2.19(0.60,3.78).Conclusions:(1)From 1997 to 2015,the average fish intake of residents aged 55 and over in Hubei Province showed a trend of first decreasing, then increasing and finally decreasing;(2)From 1997 to 2015,the proportion of female residents and rural residents with low cognitive level showed a downward trend;(3)Among the population in Hubei,China,a higher fish intake is positively correlated with the cognitive level of the elderly, and this association is independent of lifestyle factors.
