Objective:In our study,we use PC MRA to measure the main hemodynamic parameters of internal carotid artery(ICA)and vertebral artery(VA)in healthy adults. We hope to obtain(preliminary)normal reference data of cerebral blood flow and other hemodynamic parameters measured by PC MRA in adults and provide references for clinical diagnosis and related research of cerebrovascular diseases such as chronic cerebral circulation insufficiency. Methods:Bilateral internal carotid artery and vertebral artery were measured by PC MRA in 93 healthy adult volunteers in order to test the influence of side,ICA/VA system, gender and age on cerebral blood flow and other hemodynamic parameters(average velocity, peak velocity and area). To observe the correlation between cerebral blood flow and other hemodynamic parameters and age,and to obtain(preliminary)normal reference data for cerebral blood flow and other hemodynamic parameters.Results:(1)There was no statistical difference in cerebral blood flow between left and right(P>0.05).Peak velocity, average velocity and area of ICA and VA were respectively no statistical difference between left and right(P>0.05).(2)The average total cerebral blood flow was 732.58±116.17 ml/min,of which the blood flow of ICA system was 555.03±94.67ml/min,accounting for about 76%of the total cerebral blood flow. The blood flow of VA system was 177.55±36.68ml/min,contributing to total cerebral blood flow of about 24%.(3)The cerebral blood flow(cerebral blood flow of left and right, blood flow of ICA and VA systems and total cerebral blood flow)was no statistical difference between male and female groups(P>0.05),neither did the blood flow, average velocity, peak velocity and area of left/right ICA and VA(P>0.05).(4)The cerebral blood flow(cerebral blood flow of left and right, blood flow of ICA and VA systems and total cerebral blood flow),blood flow, peak velocity, average velocity and area of unilateral ICA and VA gradually decreased with age,of which there was statistical difference about total cerebral blood flow and average velocity of ICA between every two age groups(P<0.05)and the other hemodynamic parameters were respectively difference between the elderly group and the young,middle-aged group(P<0.05).Area of ICA increases gradually with age and there were statistical difference between the elderly group and the young,middle-aged group(P<0.05).However,the area of VA remained constant with age,and there was no statistical difference between every two age groups(P>0.05).(5)A significant negative correlation was found between age and cerebral blood flow(unilateral cerebral blood flow, blood flow of ICA and VA systems and total cerebral blood flow).(unilateral cerebral blood flow=480.16-age X 2.23,r=-0.63;blood flow of ICA system-717.53-age×3.18,r=-0.60;blood flow of VA system=242.80-age×1.28,r=-0.62;total cerebral blood flow=960.33-age×4.46,r=-80.68).Blood flow, peak velocity and average velocity of ICA and VA were all negatively correlated with age,but the area of ICA was positively correlated with age.(6)The preliminary normal reference data of cerebral blood flow and other hemodynamic parameters of the ICA and VA measured by PC MRA in young,middle-aged and elderly adults were as follows:unilateral cerebral blood flow of the three age groups were 384.27-414.67ml/min,356.39-390.90ml/min and 301.76-378.25ml/min,respectively;blood flow of ICA system of the three age groups were 576.40-627.35ml/min,532.52-592.39ml/min and 459.52-535.28ml/min,respectively;blood flow of VA system of the three age groups were 186.36-207.36ml/min,174.96-194.72ml/min and 135.90-162.50ml/min,respectively;total cerebral blood flow of the three age groups were 768,53-829.34ml/min,712.78-781.80ml/min and 603.51-689.69ml/min,respectively;blood flow of ICA of the three age groups were 288.20-313.67ml/min,266.26-296.19ml/min and 229.76-267.64ml/min,respectively;peak velocity of ICA of the three age groups were 50.08-58.41 cm/s,46.71-59.12cm/s and 38.43-49.45cm/s,respectively;average velocity of ICA of the three age groups were 18.52-20.77cm/s,16.81-18.78cm/s and 13.65-16.02cm/s,respectively;area of ICA of the three age groups were 0.22-0.26cm2,0.24-0.27cm2 and 0.27-0.31cm2,respectively;blood flow of VA of the three age groups were 93.18-103.88ml/min,87.48-97.36ml/min and 67.95-81.25ml/min respectively;peak velocity of VA of the three age groups were 39.02-47.26cm/s,37.09-42.56cm/s and 30.67-35.93cm/s,respectively:average velocity of VA of the three age groups were 12.33-14.79cm/s,11.86-14.53cm/s and 9.91-11.59cm/s,respectively;area of VA of the three age groups were 0.11-0.14cm2,0.1 1-0.14cm2 and 0.12-0.15cm2,respectively.Conclusions:(1)PC MRA is a noninvasive, safe and simple blood flow detection technology, which can be used as an method to measure cerebral blood flow and other hemodynamic parameters.(2)There are no side-linked differences in cerebral blood flow and other hemodynamic parameters.(3)The contributions of the ICA and the VA to total cerebral blood in healthy adults are respectively about 76%and 24%.(4)Gender has little effect on cerebral blood flow and other hemodynamic parameters in healthy adults.(5)Cerebral blood flow(unilateral cerebral blood flow, blood flow of ICA and VA systems and total cerebral blood flow)are all negatively correlated with age.Blood flow, peak velocity and average velocity of ICA and VA were all negatively correlated with age,but the area of ICA was positively correlated with age.
