Clinical Study On The Posterior Medial Meniscus Root Tear

Objective: To compare the clinical effects of different surgical methods in the treatment of posterior medial meniscus root tear,and to explore the ideal treatment of posterior medial meniscus root tear.Methods: From September 2013 to January 2019,60 cases of non-traumatic posterior medial meniscus root tear in the Department of sports medicine,Shengjing Hospital Affiliated to China Medical University were analyzed retrospectively.All patients were treated with arthroscopic surgery,including a group of 17 cases underwent meniscectomy.Another group of 21 cases underwent posterior medial meniscus root repair.and a third group of 22 cases underwent both posterior medial meniscus root repair and medial compartment release.All 60 patients were followed up for more than 12 months.To evaluate the clinical symptoms and knee functions of three groups after surgery.Results:(1)3 months after surgery,the scores of Lysholm and International Knee Documentation Committee in the three groups were significantly higher than those before surgery(P<0.05);(2)3 months after surgery,the scores of Lysholm and International Knee Documentation Committee in the repair-release group were higher than those in the meniscectomy group and the simple repair group(P<0.05);(3)3 months after surgery,there were no significant difference in the scores of Lysholm and International Knee Documentation Committee between the meniscectomy group and the simple repair group(P>0.05);(4)12 months after surgery,the Lysholm scores of the simple repair group and the repair-release group showed no statistical difference(P> 0.05),both of them were better than those of the meniscectomy group(P<0.05);(5)12 months after surgery,the International Knee Documentation Committee scores of the repair-release group were better than those of the other two groups(P<0.05);(6)12 months after surgery,the International Knee Documentation Committee scores of the simple repair group were better than those of the meniscectomy group(P<0.05).Conclusion:As a way to repair the posterior medial meniscus root,pullout repair of a medial meniscus posterior root tear through tibial tunnel can relieve the patients' clinical symptoms for a long time,satisfactory clinical effect can be obtained by the release of medial compartment.
