Zhang Xichun's Ideas Of Using Gypsum's Syndrome Type And Treatment

Purpose: In this study,Zhang Xichun's Records of Tradition Chinese and Western Medicine in Combination were taken as the research object.Through screening and sorting out the herbal medicine solution,prescription theory,medical theory and medical records of gypsum contained in the book,a systematic study was conducted from the aspects of gypsum's taste,efficacy,compatibility rules,and application standards and so on to excavate the characteristics of Zhang's use of gypsum,so as to provide reference for clinical use of gypsum.Method: This research took literature research as the main method and took the fields of gypsum's herbal medicine solution,prescription,medical record and so on in Records of Tradition Chinese and Western Medicine in Combination as the foothold,sorting out the scattered articles.At the same time,combining with the records of gypsum in ancient herbal works,it discussed Zhang's understanding of gypsum's properties,taste and its application,the compatibility rules of gypsum,classical herb pairs,and application standards and so on.Result:1.Zhang Xichun's academic thoughts were draw on the wisdom of many doctors.He emphasized the postnatal generation in Zhongzhou,the spleen yin to nourish the viscera,the source of qi and blood and the order of qi mechanism.He strongly advocated the integrating of Chinese medicine and western medicine and also emphasized the study of pharmacology,which layed a solid foundation for proper use of gypsum.2.Zhang Xichun respected "Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing" in the taste of herbs and agreed that gypsum was slightly cold and taste pungent.It had the effect of penetrating and dispersing,and the heavy quality could reach the disease position directly.Gypsum had the characteristics of combing the two,which was the reason he used so much.3.Zhang Xichun had integrated gypsum into the treatment of many diseases through the prescriptions of adding and subtracting classic prescriptions and self-innovation prescriptions.After sorting out,a series of effective herb pairs could be summarized,such as gypsum with ephedra,anemarrhena,codonopsis,licorice,yam,cassia twig,asarum,japonica rice,ocher and mint,cicadas,forsythias,in order to more flexible use.4.Zhang Xichun had strict standards for the use of gypsum,including exogenous fever,according to the pulse medication,special symptoms,and disease characteristics and so on.The pulse mainly included floating,flood,slip,rapid,strength,etc.Special symptom was irritated heat under the heart.Disease such as stroke was often combined with internal heat.Gypsum could clear the internal heat.5.Zhang Xichun innovatively developed methods of decocting and consumption,such as direct consumption of raw materials and enema.In addition,he pointed out three matters needing attention.First,people with loose stools could not use.Second,it should be used according to the nature of disease and stopped immediately when reaching the disease.Third,direct use of gypsum should be a low dose.Conclusion:1.On the understanding of the nature and taste of gypsum,Zhang Xichun followed the Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing,advocating that gypsum was slightly cold in nature,pungent in taste,not severe bitter and severe cold,and should not be excessively feared in clinical application.2.Raw gypsum was commonly used in clinical practice by Zhang Xichun because raw gypsum had divergent characteristics.3.Zhang Xichun had incorporated gypsum into the treatment of many diseases through adding and subtracting classic prescriptions and self-innovation prescriptions.After sorting out,a series of classic and effective herb pairs could be summarized and applied more flexibly.4.Zhang Xichun had strict standards for gypsum application,including exogenous febrile diseases,pulse characteristics,special symptoms,disease characteristics,etc.Attention matters in applying gypsum were also pointed out.5.Zhang Xichun had made innovative development in the decocting and taking methods of gypsum.
