| Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the clinical performance of 150 IPS e.max Press porcelain laminate veneers to anterior teeth for 6 to 76 months to provide the basis for clinical application.Materials and Methods: Anterior teeth in the maxillae and mandibles of 68 patients, with 13 men and 55 women aging from 19 to 69 years old, median age 32.7 10.1 years, were restored with 150 IPS e.max Press porcelain laminate veneers between August 2013 and August 2019 at the Department of Prosthodontics, the Affiliated Stomatology Hospital,Zhejiang University School of Medicine.Esthetic, functional and biological properties of porcelain laminate veneers were evaluated following the modified World Dental Federation criteria. The evaluation scores are 1,2,3,4 or 5,respectively,correspond to excellent, good, satisfactory, unsatisfactory or poor.Whenever a veneer receives a score of 4 or 5,it is recorded as a failure. The survival rate of IPS e.max Press porcelain laminate veneers for 1 to 7 years was analyzed by the life table.Results:1.Sixty-eight patients restored with 150 IPS e.max Press porcelain laminate veneers for 6 to 76 months were observed.Clinical examination results of 22 patients restored with 56 IPS e.max Press porcelain laminate veneers. The percentages of esthetic, functional and biological property defect were 25.0%(14/56),41.1%(23/56)and 37.5%(21/56),respectively.Three failures were recorded. In one case the veneer fractured with partial loss after 23 months. The residual was removed and the tooth was covered with a new veneer.Another also fractured after 33 months and a new veneer was cemented to the tooth, and 14 months later, again fracture occurred, but without base exposed or affecting the marginal integrity. The other was removed on account of the patient dissatisfied with function of the restoration after four months thus the abutment was prepared and cemented with a full veneer.Six cases were surface or marginal stained and another six had deviations in shade or translucency.Small marginal gaps occurred in seven cases and 12 had marginal white lines. One had a small hairline crack on incisal edge.Periodontal response was recorded in 19 cases, and two went through minor postoperative sensitivity of short duration.Overall,18 veneers scored excellent.2.In general, the majority of IPS e.max Press porcelain laminate veneers scored excellent or good according to the evaluation esthetic, functional and biological properties.Five point four percent of veneers scored unsatisfactory or poor.3.The survival rates of IPS e.max Press porcelain laminate veneers for 1 to 7 years were 99.28%,98.49%,97.70%,97.70%,97.70%,97.70% and 97.70%,respectively.Conclusion: 1.IPS e.max Press porcelain laminate veneers offer a predictable and successful esthetic restoration in anterior teeth in the short period and the main defects are periodontal response and marginal white lines and gaps.2.Long-term clinical outcomes of IPS e.max Press porcelain laminate veneers still require more samples with further follow-up. |
