Objective: Electroacupuncture(EA)is a clinical common conservative treatment which used for patients with temporomandibular disorders,it is a combination of electrical stimulation and acupuncture stimulation which acts in the human neural network in order to adjust human body's physiological imbalance, the purpose of this paper is to compare the therapeutic effects between the TMD patients of anterior disc displacement with reduction(anterior disc displacement with reduction,ADDw R)and without reduction(anterior disc displacement without reduction,ADDwo R).Methods:1.From October 2017 to October 2019,60 TMD patients were recruited from the third hospital of Hebei Medical University, all of them were divided into two groups named ADDw R and ADDwo R according to the research diagnostic criteria for TMD and magnetic resonance imaging.2.The patients were arranged to accept a continuous ten day EA treatment, once a day for 30 minutes.3.The pretherapy, the third, the sixth, the post-treatment VAS were recorded, both Friction's indexes and Mc Gill questionnaire were also calculated, the max mouth opening without pain, the overall efficacy and the temporomandibular disc position were all under observation.4.Data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0,the differences of count data was measured by using Chi-square test, the measurement data was compared via Student's test,Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney U tests.P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results:1.The VAS score kept going down based on the different time observation compared to the pretherapy index(P < 0.05),the pain was alleviated obviously after the third treatment(P < 0.05),the sixth VAS decreased than the third(P<0.05),but the sixth and the tenth VAS indicated no significant differences in both groups(P>0.05),the effects between groups showed that the ADDw R group improved more(P<0.05).2.The Mc Gill score of both groups decreased after treatment(P<0.05),but the effects was more significant in the ADDw R group(P=0.008).3.The dysfunction index, palpation index and craniomandibular index were significantly reduced in each group(P<0.05),while the palpation index decreased more in the ADDw R group when compared with the other group(P=0.037).4.The overall effects of both groups guaranteed 90% efficacy, but there was little difference between the two groups(P=0.165).5.The max mouth opening without pain of the two groups increased after treatment(P<0.05),but the comparison between groups showed that the the ADDw R group could open wider(P=0.000).6.The rate of disc reduction was zero after the treatment in both groups.Conclusions:1.According to the VAS and Mc Gill score,EA worked better in the ADDw R group, and there should be a six-day treatment course at least.2.The joint condition was heading to a good direction based on the Friction indexes, the muscle palpation in ADDw R improved more when compared with the other group.3.The overall efficacy of both groups improved, yet little differences could find in the comparison of groups.4.EA functioned well on the improvement of max mouth opening without pain, but the effect of ADDw R group was better.5.The electroacupuncture couldn't let the disc position get back the original position for patients with anterior disc displacement of the temporomandibular disorders over six months.
