Hypericum ascyron,commonly called Hong-Han-Lian or Huang-Hai-Tang in Chinese,is a perennial herbal plant of the genus Hypericum in the family Guttiferae.H.ascyron widely distributes in most area in China with a long history of medicinal usage.The chemical constituents of Hypericum are complex and diverse,and previous reports have displayed a variety biological activities for Hypericum spp,which has attracted the increasing attention of many researchers domestic and overseas.However,there are few reports about the chemical compositions of H.ascyron and their activities up to now.Therefore,further chemical investigation on it is necessary.This thesis focuses on the chemical constituents study on the medicinal herb of H.ascyron,and it contains two chapters as follows.The first chapter mainly reviewed the advance of the chemical constituents and pharmacological activities of Hypericum ascyron.Previous studies have shown that H.ascyron contained a variety of active ingredients,such as flavonoids,polycyclic polyprenylated acylphloroglucinols(PPAPs),dianthrone,terpenes,steroids,polyphenols xanthones,etc.Recent pharmacological reports have demonstrated that H.ascyron and its constituents possessed the activities of anti-asthma,cough-relieving,anti-hemostasis,anti-sepsis,swelling-reducing,anti-depression,liver-protection,antibacterial,antiinflammatory and anti-cancer.The second chapter mainly studies the chemical composition of H.ascyron.A total of nine compounds have been isolated and purified from the ethanol extract of the dried aerial part of H.ascyron by repeated various column chromatography methods(ODS,C8,Sephadex LH-20,D101 macroporous resin,silica gel column chromatography,preparative silica gel thin layer chromatography,etc.).The chemical structures of the isolated compounds were determined mainly by means of organic spectral analysis techniques and(nuclear magnetic resonance,infrared,mass spectrometry,etc.)as well as compared the reported data in previous literature.Their chemical structures was identified as follows: glutinol(1),betulinic acid(2),2,2',5,6'-tetrahydroxybenzophenone(3),6-deoxyisobrasin red chitin(4),6-methyl-5-hydroxy-7,4'-dimethyloxyflavones(5),stigmasterol(6),?-sitosterol(7),paxanthone(8),and bridelionoside C(9),of which,compounds 1-5,8 and 9 were first reported in the herb of H.ascyron.The findings of this study will provided valuable and scientific suggestions for the reasonable development and usage for resource of this medicinal herb.
