| Objectives:1 To cross-culturally adapting the Second Victim Experience and Support Tool(SVEST),and verify the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the scale,so as to provide a reliable measurement tool for the quantitative research on the second victim in China.2 To understand the experience and support status of nurses as the second victim in patient safety incidents in Chongqing, and analyze the related influencing factors to provide a reference for managers to focus on and support the second victim.Methods:1 According to the cross-cultural adaptation guideline recommended by the American Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons Evidence-Based Medicine Committee, translation, expert consultation and pre-test survey of the SVEST were conducted to form the pre-test version of the Chinese version.2 Nurses as the second victim in 7 general hospitals in Chongqing,a total of 1422,were investigated online using convenience sampling method with pre-test scale.Using item analysis to check the discrimination of the Chinese version of the scale items.Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis, content validity,Cronbach’s alpha coefficient, retest reliability were carried out for evaluating reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the SVEST.Univariate analysis and multiple linearstepwise regression were used to get a preliminary understanding of the experience and support level of nurses as the second victim in Chongqing’s patient safety incidents and analyze the related factors affecting the second victim experience and support level.Results:1 Item analysis deleted 1 item,8 exploratory factor analysis deleted 8items of 32 items,24 items were retained, and 6 common factors were extracted, namely, psychological distress, physiological distress, practice distress, colleague support, management support, relatives and friends support. The loading coefficient of each factor was 0.666~0.879,and the cumulative variance contribution rate was 68.624%.The results of confirmatory factor analysis showed that all the fitting indexes met the fitting standards. The total Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of the scale was0.862 and the retest reliability was 0.90.The content validity index of the scale is 0.99,and the content validity index of each item is 0.89~1.2 The average score of distress and support dimension items was(3.55±0.68)and(2.43±0.61),respectively.Psychological distress scored the highest in the distress dimension and colleague support scored the lowest in the support dimension. The results of multiple stepwise linear regression analysis showed that the second victim experience and support level were affected by job income, professional title, age and marital status.Conclusions:1 This study developed the Chinese version of the SVEST with better reliability and validity, which included six dimensions: psychological distress, physiological distress, practice distress, colleague support, management support, relatives and friends support, and 24 items. It can be used as a tool to evaluate the experience and support status of nurses as the second victim in patient safety incidents in China.2 Nurses as second victims in patient safety incidents in Chongqing mainly faces the psychological distress, largely relies on the colleague support. It is proposed that managers should pay attention to nurses as second victims, and provide corresponding support to the factors affecting the experience and the support level of nurses as second victims, namely, work income, job title, age, marital status. |
