Research On The Name Of Jaundice Based On TCM Literature

Research purposes: By sorting out the recorded terminologies and aliases of jaundice disease in the literature from Pre-Qin period to the modern times,this paper tracks and analyses the meaning of the disease name and its evolution process,providing reference for a preliminary exploration to the standardization of TCM disease nomenclature.Research methods: Using the method of literature exegesis and induction,and in line with the idea of “seeking ancient instruction,tracing back to the source”,this paper sorts out the literature of the past dynasties,doctors and traditional Chinese medicine classics,focuses on textual research,and investigates the evolution of jaundice disease names through consulting the ancient books on TCM and medical history literature.And by tracing the sources of the terminologies and aliases of jaundice and by clarifying the evolution process,this paper aspires to comprehend the changing process of how the doctors in the past dynasties understood the jaundice disease names.Research content: This paper puts emphasis on researching the past literature.By sorting out the ancient books and the development of the past doctors' knowledge about jaundice,this paper studies the origin and development of the name of jaundice disease which shows that the past doctors' knowledge about jaundice experienced a gradual and orderly developing process,different disease nomenclatures embodying the changing process of the past doctors' knowledge about this disease and their ideas of therapies,and due to the limit of the times,jaundice was termed by different names in the history of TCM.This paper conducts a textual research into the literature on jaundice,in hope of exploring the thought essence in the past doctors' studies on the disease names of jaundice and providing document reference for the modern knowledge about this disease.The major methods this paper applies to the ancient books and documents are generalization and classification.The paper studies and analyses the relevant records of the disease names of jaundice in the ancient literature.The content consists of three parts.The introduction mainly summarizes the ancient and modern knowledge about the disease name of jaundice including its literal sense and definition,pointing about that in the ancient literature there were various methods for naming jaundice.And the introduction also gives a comprehensive survey of the current research of the name of jaundice disease and its clinical significance.The first part sorts out the evolution of the disease name of jaundice throughout the history,chronologically analyzing the historical clues for the disease names' evolution and development.Based on the articles and records of jaundice in the ancient books,this part respectively discusses the naming characteristics of jaundice disease name and its evolution in different periods,from the Pre-Qin period to Han Dynasty,from Wei and Jin dynasties to Sui and Tang dynasties,from Song,Jin and Yuan dynasties to Ming and Qing dynasties till modern period.The second part is about the principles for naming jaundice and its classification.It firstly sums up the principles for naming jaundice by analyzing the 103 disease names recorded in the ancient medical books.Secondly,it classifies these terminologies and aliases of jaundice according to one or several of these research objects: symptoms,causes,locations and other elements,which essence is to show different characteristics of the naming method for jaundice.The third part summarizes and discusses the significance and the realistic value of the research on jaundice's past names in the literature.It sorts out and conducts a textual study on the ancient literature on jaundice's name.In the sense of document study,this is an overall summary for the disease names of jaundice and their definitions,connotations and dimensions,contributing to the standardization of naming jaundice,providing documentary reference for the clinical treatment of some diseases with jaundice as the primary symptom.
